Hello all,
I'm new to the forum and kitcars but I'm a car bore and long term mx5 owner. I've been a bit slow getting on the forum and putting a build thread up (picked up my kit in June and finished 80% of the build by now oops) but better late than never! Here's a few pictures (hope they work!) from when I picked up my kit to before Christmas when the piggy bank got low and a house move interrupted my fun.
The donor was a 1.6 import which I picked up for £600, it had a rotten body and was damp but the oily bits were in surprisingly good nick.
I cut it into four and it fitted into the back of a 110 Landy pickup. :-D
After a few weekends with a wire brush, rust cure and a few rattle cans of hammerite I was left with this. (This required plenty of patience and was a character building exercise fueled by tea and banana sandwiches courtesy of my Nan.
Picked up the kit from MEV HQ and after a couple of hundred miles the old man helped fitting the floors and body as soon as we got home.
Plumbed it, connected up the wigglies, put the battery and it fired first time. Extremely proud/smug moment. This picture shows the initial dash area wiring, it's neater now but still requires some patience and attention.
First rolling and driving picture with body work and the old heavy wheels.
I had to move it to its new home but I'm really happy with the white and black colour combination and the wheels I swapped for some of the donor parts at a local breakers.
I was determined to have a central fuel filler and after a trip to the donnington show I picked some flexible wire wound fuel hose and ebayed a flip-up cap from a mini.
I'm getting close to completion but have a few expensive parts to buy including lights, wheel spacers, exhaust and my apprenticeship wage is struggling to keep up with my enthusiasm.
Has anyone fitted a cherry bomb/bullet type silencer to a '5 or exocet? I'm curious to find out if it will get noise levels down enough to pass IVA.
Cheers
