I'm going to be ordering my exhaust parts this week and was wondering if anyone has fitted a cherry bomb/bullet type silencer to an mx5 or exocet before?
If so what sort of dB levels does it produce and will it pass IVA?
Cheers

Got a bit done this month, I've really struggled thinking up an exhaust solution I was mad for so I bought a chav can from ebay with a 4" outlet. (Should be pretty obnoxious and was very cheap). I made up a 4" ring out of 6mm stainless pipe to get increase the radius of the tail pipe. I made a hanger from some 10mm stainless bar with an acorn nut welded on the end and then ground down to fit the rubber nicely. The test fit looks ok, need to tweak the hanger a midgie's nacker but I am going to make a 'diffuser' type dooberry (looks not function) or some sort of rear panel because I feel it looks a bit 'plonked' (technical term there). Thoughts please? Will hopefully have a dB reading when I get a meter of a mate and Then it's on to lights!

Nice solution with the stainless ring for the tail pipe radius.

R.E the dB reading, i downloaded a sound meter app on my phone. It turned out to be 0.1dB out compared to a proper calibrated noise meter. Might be handy for those with no access to a proper one.
The back end is certainly missing something on the Exocets. Check my build out for a rear diffuser idea. It was fairly straight forward to make and tidies the back end up hell of a lot.

I'm hoping it's not going to be too chav-tastic and raspy, we will see....still not 100% with the setup but it was only £30... R.E the dB reading, i downloaded a sound meter app on my phone. I agree, I like your diffuser matthew, it fills the space nicely, I might go with something similar and try to incorporate some black mesh of some sort.

Just how far out does that tip go from rear of frame.. There is a max can't remember what it is off hand.. Sure others will chime in with numbers..

I will measure it but I don't think it's much more than 100mm, thanks for the heads up.
I plan on 'slash' cutting it once it's tested and bring it flush with the rear of the frame or diffuser panel, should hopefully get rid of the 'pea shooter' look it has at the moment.

Cutting it down will really change the sound most likely for the worst. If it sounds good, something you like why not shorten pipe to it some..
