Rubbish day today, try as I might to get the original Mazda filler to fit with the tank and rear tub, I had to admit defeat. Span it 180degress as per the build manual and seem to be ok when I get some 90degree pipes in, it should fit just need to re drill the tank and supports. Wasted money and time, the usual!!

Yeah I think both the above posts will sound familiar to many. I think yours is a Mk1 1.6? (it'd be worth putting your donor spec in your 'signature' to help others help you) - same as mine. For the fuel with the tank the MEV-way-round I could make the side exit (per MEV guide) work, but it felt strained and restricts tank capacity. Top of tank cover at left rear seemed the easiest to achieve, but I didn't want the filler cap up there. My tranny tunnel findings all noted in mevowners.proboards.com/thread/4825/yorkie-novice-build?page=10 if they help at all.

It's not great but seem to have the panel fitted. I may remake my own from scratch post IVA When I strip the car down again to do stuff!!!

Another good day today, all the transmission tunnel panels made and fitted. A lick of black paint eventually.
Not sure if I will need edge trim on the handbrake cover panels, need to read on the radius required on internal components, I would rather not as they look good flush. But if any knows the requirements please let me know.

Had a bit of a clean and tidy out of the car and garage today it was becoming a dump. Good job I'm a single guy as the Hoover was in heavy use cleaning all the metal and debris. Think it may be broken now... Oops!
Car is looking better empty but I'm sure I won't be able to find anything I need now...

Well it's finally time to come back into the fold and get back onto the car, life as always has got in the way. Jury service, fitting a bathroom, Christmas and two month long work trips, one im still away on. A work colleague just finished his gbs zero and he has given me a push to get cracking, let's hope iva for summer.

Ah I see I think you have an earlier chassis to me aswell, as I have to flip my MK2 tank around to get the holes lined up with the brackets (just about, after bending them in a good 15mm) I read somewhere that rubber spacers are better than washers as the tank is notorious for rattling on the washers, im going to use off cuts of fuel line as a large rubber spacer, maybe that will work, we'll see Hey shane. See you've got Dave on the job now, so you should be on the road soon. Just wading through loads of info on fitting the tank, and you've done what Stuart said by bending the brackets in by 15mm. This would work for me, but what did you use to bend them? And is there any danger of breaking the weld?? Alternative is to bolt an extension plate on, but I want to stay as low as possible, as it sounds difficult to fit the "boot" over the tank and between the roll-bar struts.

The weld won't crack when you bend the brackets: Take 2 large adjustable spanners. Wind them down to 3 mm. Slide one over the horizontal part of the bracket and one over the vertical part of the bracket. Insert a bar or spanner into the holes at the end of the handle part of the adjustable spanners. Rotate one bar in the opposite direction to the other to gently bend the bracket. Bend the vertical part inwards and reduce the 90 degree bend in the plate to keep the horizontal part, well err horizontal. Now if you can make sense of that you are a better man than me!

No, I remember you telling me when I was last there. Just didn't want to fracture the weld. No such spanners, so will resort to plan B - brute force & ignorance.
