Thought it was time to get started with a build thread. Currently I have a rolling PPF and I need to get my act together and get he kit bought. I have learned a good lesson so far, but a decent donor is a good idea. I bought a mk1 1.6 and a dodgy trailer for £270 a bargain but an absolute rot box, although the engine is strong with good compression across all the cylinders. I even sold the trailer for £135 to a friend so I may have the cheapest donor going. the car and trailer getting home already stripped as a track car bent steering arm had a crash on the front stripping commenced spaghetti, I have started stripping the loom and already made one whoopsie that needs soldering back together? Removing the body with one mate, who needs an engine crane when you have two jacks some wood and a good old wheelie bin the rolling PPF as it sits now, currently trying to remove the shocks but all the tangs securing the bolt heads have snapped, time to get creative, I may modify the wishbones for better access. That's it for now, I just need to get on and order the kit but whilst I'm waiting I will get all the PPF blasted and powder coated and do some gasket and seal changes on the engine.

Well a bit of an update, after seeing a forum member selling a Exocet on eBay I have hopefully come up with a deal. Just waiting on some finer point details before I send a deposit to secure the car. Very excited and a bargain.

Wheel advice please, what size alloys have people gone for and offsets, seems to be an endless minefield I like the look of the rota grid. Thoughts...?

I am now the proud owner of chassis 198 now having got the car home and all the crap removed I have gone from excitement to fear. Where the hell do I start. Finishing off someone else's build?

Time to start making lists.. Safety first..I would start at the under side.. frame to subs, shocks and all bolts tight frame and wheels axles.Brake system built and working..Fuel lines run, tank secure.. Pedal in right. tape the end of the intake up don't need any thing nesting there.. Coolant system in and secure. Will be needing a new radiator in future your top tank is turning green it is ready to crank and leak..install old one now but add to list.. Don't rush.. Ask questions. What year doner was used looks like a '99 1.8.. Have fun.. We are here to help..

So now you have a donor and a mostly completed exocet? Yeah I have a donor stripped and a nearly finished car. Both 1.6 but one a mk1 and one a mk2 so don't know if I can mix and match parts

Good point about the intake I will tape that. The car was a 1998 mk2. It was built by John brunt a member on here and he did have a build thread. Lots of money to spend and stuff to do but I will get there very slowly. As I am out of the country on Sunday for two months so won't get a chance to start much. Thanks for the advice and I look forward to updating and getting to know you all, I'm an aircraft engineer so hoping it not going to be too tough just time consuming.

Paint would work but likely to scratch up a lot due to gettng in and out and heel marks from driving. A number of builds have used thin rubber matting. Available off ebay, lots of different patterns and cuts down on drumming.
