... hope you didn't lose a lot of time to that then. You're making good progress.

No worries miket, hope it helps when you wire up yours! Sorted the hazard light tell-tale out - fairly simple wiring error. For the record, using savage switches I have wired them up as follows: Rear fog: 1 - power in 2 - out to fog light A - earth B - jumper to pin 2 Hazard: 1 - orange in from original switch 2 - jumper to pin B A - earth Apologies for poor pic but this is how the underneath of the transmission tunnel looks: The switches are quite long so I had to place them just beyond the end of the PPF where there is enough vertical space. They are still within easy reach when in the driver's seat however.

So having had a rush of blood to the head, I have stripped back some of the 'completed' wiring and put in some wiring for some 'angel eyes' lights at the front - outer light will come on with the side lights and the inner light will come on with the main beam only. Since these are optional lamps there are no positional requirements for IVA. Then a bit more tidying to leave: Also connected up the cooling system, flushed and filled with coolant and ran the engine for a couple of minutes...until a fair amount of smoke/mist started rising up from the exhaust manifold area. Any ideas? Thanks Tim

Good news/bad news sort of day...
1. Fuel gauge wasn't working, so I connected the sensor wire to ground and the gauge went up to max, therefore checked the tank and turned out to be a sticky float. Sorted.
2. Clutch problem was due to faulty master cylinder, replaced it and all ok. Sorted.
3. Overheating on last engine run, gauge went off the scale and it didn't seem like any coolant was flowing round. Decided to check the fan by grounding the temp sensor wire - fan came on. Probably dodgy temp sensor or thermostat stuck closed I thought. Came to take off thermostat housing to check thermostat and both bolts sheared off. B..... . Will replace temp sensor and thermostat anyway, I don't think it's the water pump as it wasn't making a strange noise nor was it leaking. I suppose the only other thing might have been a blockage or maybe an airlock. Managed to drill the bolts out but I won't be submitting my effort in any 'Best Drilled Out Bolts' competition.

I had similar problem with one of our thermostat bolts managed to drill and tap them out but it was a pain also you may want to check the small coolant pipes as there may be a blockage there

Thanks for that - will make sure I check all the small pipes before re-assembling. Managed to box off a few smaller jobs: Rear fog and flasher switches both in and working: Manufacturer's plate: Front wiring finished off: The relays are for the LED angel lights (blew a fuse without them) which I will install after IVA. Secured the dash with a third bolt and ali tube spacer: Rear tub back on in order to put mounting bolts in:

HI there, Can i ask where you got your brake pipes (yellow) made from as I'm looking for custom length green ones? Also what air intake that is as it looks like I have the same engine. Thanks

Hi The brake pipes were from ebay, quite a while ago. I've looked back but can't find the supplier but there are quite a few who do them. I just ordered them based on my donor and they fitted fine. I think the air intake was this one: K&N 57i Performance Air Filter Induction Kit / Intake Kit - 57-0047 from demontweeksdirect again on ebay but you better double check as I may have swapped it over whilst finishing off my other project I was thinking about adding a small ali shield to protect it further from the exhaust heat. Cheers Tim

Long time since last post due to work, winter, Xmas, back problems etc but determined to make some good progress over the next few weeks and months. Have been considering how to attach the side panels to the 2 metal uprights without having to use bolts and nut covers which would protrude inwards. So have found these M6 connector bolts, and cut them down accordingly: Should just need a bit of thread lock and they will be hardly visible.

Made some floor mats out of rubber matting and yellow edge trim: Fitted the nearside side panel although there is a bit of a gap when it is tight against the metal upright: I suppose I could leave it as a gap but I think I will just put some packing in which, when combined with some edge trim across the top, should get it flush to the rail.

So, wired in my DRL's today, came to test them and encountered a couple of problems.
1. They only came on intermittently. By fiddling with the key in the ignition barrel I could get them to stay on continuously. So, dodgy ignition barrel???
2. They didn't go off when I switched on the side lights. Is this possibly because I connected the trigger wire on the 'light' side of the relay as opposed to the 'switch'side of the relay so there wasn't enough power to trigger it??

Sorted DRL problems with a new ignition barrel. So trial fitted the front wing stays: Seems to be plenty of clearance (more than it looks like in the pic). Waiting on some M8 bolts to final fix and then try out my nice new 40mm spacers from Freaky Parts (using original Mk1 wheels so gives an offset of 5 I think).

Made some progress with the rear wing stays: Drilling the hole for the second bolt is fairly awkward, the manual suggests either taking out the shock absorber or the top wishbone bolt in order to rotate it downwards but I found it was necessary to do both in order to get the drill in place. Still, not too long a job, though wish I had done it before assembling the rear suspension in the first place Then spent some (more) time on the wiring, as I am planning on fitting an engine start button eventually. I am wiring it so as to leave the option of returning to a key start via a simple inter-change of 1 connector, this will give me a key start for IVA. Also if the relay for the button start fails I can easily return it to key start in order to get home Tim
