Hi all Guess I should have started this thread a while ago as I have been doing the strip down and rebuild for nearly 2 years now, but ordered my kit about 2 weeks ago so progress will hopefully get quicker! Donor vehicle was a 1991 1.6 insurance write-off which I got back on the road before dismantling it in order to get a V5. No guesses as to the intended colour scheme! I have tried to be as thorough as possible with the re-build with the exception of taking the engine apart, lots of parts powder coated etc although initially I will be going for a 'basic' build and do any upgrades later. I am not an expert at all, although have previously built a Marlin Sportster (brilliant car, pig to build). Have found the builds on this forum excellent, thank you all for your ideas and motivation. Tim

Ditto re the welcome - looking good - posh exhaust for a Mk1 1.6 donor? Be worth putting your donor spec in your 'signature' to help others help you ... if help's ever needed.

Thanks for the welcome guys, I'm sure I will be calling on your build experiences over the next few months. I'm based in Bristol, I know there is at least 1 other Exocet builder in the Bristol area as I saw their chassis at my powder-coaters! The exhaust is an upgrade The rocker cover paint is simple Hammerite smooth yellow, brushed on rather than sprayed, should be ok for the temp in my previous experience. Then did the indented lettering with a small brush, carefully. Cheers Tim

Bristol you say? I live up the road in Gloucester and built 2.5 Exocets now. Shout if you need any advice.

Spent this afternoon getting it back to a rolling chassis (front subframe had been on bricks during suspension rebuild) Next job is to have a tidy up before the chassis arrives!

Nice build so far..Do like the yellow.. You will need to assemble the shocks and springs before dropping frame on..Frame is not heavy enough to compress springs..

Thanks gwnwar I sort of guessed the frame wasn't going to be heavy enough, so will have to find some spring compressors... Tim

Looking good. I found I couldn't run the rear flexible fuel hoses up past the tank from central (rear) vertical copper fuel pipes like you have there - not enough room twixt tank and cover. Mine's a '90 1.6 using the donor tank the MEV way round. I had to bend the copper thru ninety degrees and run the hoses thru the o/s triangle formed by the tank mounting bracket. If you've not fastened the chassis on yet you might want to lift it off the rear subframe a bit to make more working room if you need it. Hope your fitting turns out to be straightforward.

I've run into the same thing on my '96., We have lines run the same way and have been thinking about the best way to get them up past the fuel tank flange behind the bodywork. There doesn't seem to be enough clearance between the tank and the bodywork.

Timbo, where did you get the brackets for your fuel/brake lines?
