Hi all the build has begun Got a 99 mx5 last June and striped it and painted it to have it ready for the chassis I ordered the chassis the end of October and it was picked up from Mev HQ on Monday the 21 Nov and it arrived with me on 22nd at dinner time when the courier rang me on Friday to say he will be picking the kit up it was the longest weekend ever
Wednesday eve I had the floor cut out and I drilled all the holes for the rivets I made a call on Friday to taillight powder coating in Dublin and the chassis was loaded on to the trailer at 8 am Saturday morning and on it way to Dublin. We arrived there at 9 am and off loaded the car the guys looked and looked scratching heads it looked bigger than the photo I sent them on Friday morning the Main guy Jeff went off and came back with a tape measure to see if it will fit in the oven well I was a bit upset when this was going on but to cut to the chase I arrived home at 3pm with the chassis on the trailer powder coated there was just under a 100 mm all round space in the oven The guys busted a gut to get it blasted a coated and a big thanks to then it looks fab
Saturday eve I fitted the floors and have a better grip after working out with the rivet gun
Today I fitted the brake and fuel lines . I used the ones from the Donner as the where in top condition a bit of bending and straighting to get the to sit right fitted the servo and clutch pedal units . Hope to fit chassis to the drive train this week and will post some photos as well

This is what i got last June with the chassis powder coated in half a day we started the build that week i am at the stage where i going to install the wiring loom this week but was playing around with some crazy idea today see below some mods Was thinking of fiberglass the dash filling all the unwanted holes with fiberglass and then trim to suit would have to make some sort of angled lip at the back of dash to allow the bonnet to be able to come off without any obstruction would appreciate any ideas or comments

Had the same idea but was a scared at the amount of filling and the visibility through the side panals. Have you contemplated carbon fibre wrap or vinyl to go over the top.
did you have to shorten the metal support behind the dash ?

Hi red5 I removed the bar completely then I separated the top part of the dash to get the rough size then cut the top part to fit I then put the top back on the main part and cut that to get a size the centre console sits out to near the gear stick I had to the suports to bend it back a bit To give me clearance to change gear without hitting my knuckles off dash
I plan to refit the sides ofvthe old dash using fiberglass and possibly fitting some supports from the bulkhead to dash .Yes carbon fiber wap was in my head I was looking at wrapping the compleat tunnel and blend it all in
I think it makes a different look at the finish as I said I was only playing around with this this eve and I kind of like it

Hi All This is the finished product after sanding filling and more sanding them spraying a week of evenings letting the fiberglass filler and paint dry still have to fit it tight to bulkhead and transmission tunnel I am 90% happy with it I will plan to do a carbon fiber rap on it before i finish now the rest of the build can go on as i got that out of my head regards

Geoff
Have you had it running yet ? - The Majority of snags with the first start is with electrics , if you secure the loom to well you might be making work for yourself on a fault find , i.e i had to reposition some earths for the starter motor and alternator to work properly.
no doubt your all over it and i was a pure dumbass.

Hi red5
I didn't start it yet I am hopping to turn the key to test all middle if next week . I ran the battery cables down under the car in the same location as they where I then drilled a 20 mm hole in the tunnel behind the driver seat and fitted a rubber grommet and ran the cables through it they are to long so plan trim them whin I fit the battery
I am using my multi meter with the black lead strapped to the earth and am belling out the earths as I go along as soon as I bolt a earth on I test it to the other ones and the engine it self . I came across a nice copper breaded earth strap 25mm x 5mm 300 mm long and bolted it from the engine (original location at back if engine) to the chassis and I getting a good bond all round
But we will see when I go to start it
Got the few bits today in the motor factors I also picked up sone 2.5mm aluminum strips as well from a fabricator and made a hanging bracket for the new rad . It fitted as well as the front brake calibers & pads
Getting there slowly I will have to place an order with the freak over the Christmas to get the wheel spacers
I came across a web site in Germany that do car parts and they have a nice set of fake leather bucket seats include shipping to Ireland € 180 no bad fk automotive
I might get a bit more done before Christmas eve ,her in doors hasn't give me a list to do yet but I know it due and it will have to be done
Regards
Geoff

Hi red5
Took your advise and after a hour bolting down the loose earths and finishing off fuel pipes in the engine bay I turned the ignition and I only got the ABS light and brake light checked all the earths for tightness got the multimeter out and started belling them out all ok there then I released that KP checked the plug at the back of the dash clocks it was plugged together so I opened it and repuluged it
BA BA BA VROOM VROOM it alive no centre box and plenty of noise but what a happy sound at least that works
You had my head thinging all day so I had to get it started
Thanks mate

Hi I have been trying to get to the bottom of the issue of VRT ing a kit car here in Ireland and have hit a lot of obstacles over the last week or so but with some perseverance and hounding the Revenue as well as other agency's I finally got some closure .Because i building from scratch with a new chassis the treat it as a new car so just have to bring it to out NCT center to verifier the engine number and chassis number and produce a ID / Utility bill and they will send all paperwork to Revenue CVO office to estimate a VRT ( how much tax there going to take off me ) .Their panel of experts will Value the Exocet to determine what it worth and I will pay a percentage . Now the only way they can estimate the value is to search the Internet and other sites to see what been sold at the moment to try get a comparison . I Will let you all know when i go for valuation so you can remove all Exocet been sold on the net to make it hard for them here where I am at so far Thanks Stuart for you help I have forward it to the wright people to plead my case They plan to change this prouder in April with all kit and classic cars been built and imported to get type approval certification so I have to have it on the road before then Geoff
