The bulkhead panels are dreadful, even the new ones. So many have re-made their own versions. It would be better to have them made of steel and welded in at factory but then it adds cost and weight.

Hi all, so it's been a while since updated anything on here (seems its been a while since anyone has actually lol) so thought I would post some of the progress I have made over the last few months. If you're on the fb groups for MEV then you've probably already seen these pop up at some point but at least on here it's all kept together. So, going to back to where I left off Fuel & brake line bracketsGot some thin sheet metal, cut to shape using an angle grinder, bent to shape using a vice and persuasion, drilled, painted, fitted. It really is that simple. This is the shape i chose to go for My personal choice of fitment was to rivnut in to the chassis, then use dome head bolts with loctite on The route i chose was down the driverside of the chassis, with the brake leading off at the rear towards the centre to join to the t-piece Mating the two!!So the time had come to mount the chassis to the skate. Had concerns whether or not this would be straight forward as after reading other peoples blogs etc, it seems they didn't always align right on the first drop. By some miracle, mine did! So on she went! Coilovers and new wheels!
Just a couple of pictures here as nothing really to write, new coilovers which i purchased previously, i took advantage of Duncan's sale post and bought his wheels. These are 16" XXR 527 Alloys with ET0. I purchased these so that I wont need to use spacers. I know the coilovers aren't the best brand but if it gets the car on the road and driving, then i can save up for better ones further down the line

Seats! So, the missus has been dropping hints about how the space in the spare room seems to be diminishing due to car parts. This prompted me to start on some of the parts which can then be moved out of the way once done. So, on to the seats. I decided I want both seats to slide back/ forth and like a melt I let my original runners go when I sold the original seats! I bought some universal ones which has strong reviews (not the cheapest but also not the most expensive, think i paid £35 per side). Fitted these, and decided to paint the back of the GRP to remove the sharp shards which can sometimes splinter you. The difference made from just painting these is fab, definitely recommend painting them for the sake of 30 mins Once the paint had fully dried the day after, I then decided I had to man up and cut the holes for the harness. Multiple designs and patterns later, I settled on the layout which I prefer and took to cutting the seats. Take your time, measure multiple times and make a template like I did if it helps. I then used a rotary tool to cut out the holes nicely I then cleaned them down and painted where I had cut. Then decided to trim the seats (all edges) but used a smaller trim than the one that came with the kit, it was also a nice glossy finish which suited the seats. As this trim was smaller, it was also easier to shape and bend in the corners. To wrap up this part, whilst the weather was dry, I decided to paint the inside of the GRP panels as these will be seen

RadiatorSo, for this, I searched a lot online and read others comments/ posts to help make my decision. In the end I purchased a Japspeed 50mm dual core aluminium rad (mk1 model) from Gravity Performance, The radiator looks really smart in my opinion. I made my own brackets from steel plate, took a few attempts to get them measured and cut right but it is now all sorted and fitted on the car. I opted for a new Universal 12" fan so that i could sit it closer to the frame. The car is now all plumbed up and running. I sorted all the wiring out as much as I can for now until after IVA and have wrapped all the wiring in conduit and then also fabric tape around the conduit to remove any vibration noise. I do have a video and will look at how I can upload it (it is on fb) but after doing the wiring and fitting everything, the car started on the first attempt!! I was over the moon to say the least. I don't yet have a full exhaust system so that needs sorting, the battery isn't yet fully in place/ secured, and loads of other jobs to sort but it moves and stops under it's own power which was a major milestone for me! As stressful as it can sometimes be when things go wrong... the feeling of it firing up and coming to life after 2 years, well, what a feeling!

Well, figured I wont post some more updates on here as it's been a while now and this forum seems to be very quiet lol. Fuel FillerThis was something i wasn't looking forward to tackling. Basically because I had read of all the issues others had when filling etc. I decided to get a 90 degree bend fuel hose (Gates) and cut this down, along with the normal steel filler pipe. This allowed me to fit it in a place where it now comes out of the tank cover on the right side and does fit quite tight and secure. Not sure if I have left myself enough room to get a fuel nozzle in or not when needed but time will tell. Some pics of the pipe/ hose mods and placement below I will get some pics of this with the tank cover over to show the fitment out of the side

Wiring Tray CoverNext up was to make a cover for the wiring tray. I am happy with the finish and the look, but not sure if I will keep this or make something which curves the edges of the wiring tray instead, to help prevent any water ingress. For now though, this is my cover

Centre Dash PanelSo, I was unsure what kind of dash panel I wanted to make and how I was going to fit it. The idea I came up with was to bend some perspex using heat, to form a bit of a curved panel. Why did I want a panel like this.. well... I guess there is the slight chance that after IVA I will need somewhere to seat some gauges, such as Boost/ AFR etc/. These won't be fitted until after IVA but the panel will be in place ready with the cut outs made. To fill the cut outs, I have used rubber grommets which should really eliminate any edges which fail to meet the radius requirements

Wing StaysSo, last update for today is the wing stays, again, another job that wasn't the most enjoyable and not sure iv gone the best way around it but I tried to follow what some others have previously done to make them removable (for alignment, light wiring, any other issues which may need them removed). I drilled through for 4mm bolts and used this to hold some aluminium tubing in place which is then bonded against the guards themselves. All 4 are now done and have been on/ off a couple of times to allow me to fit the rear lights and wiring. The wheels do come off/ and go on whilst the guards are not but only just lol

Your build looks superb - thoroughly enjoyed reading your thread.
+1 for South Yorkshire; I'm Barnsley based (very close to Shafton, where I read someone else is from also).
Didn't build my exo - bought a runner off someone else but for a project with the kids (two petrol head boys). Have a spare engine to start refurbing for FI; your photos are worth their weight in gold!
Such a shame the forum is dead/dying; these build threads are great for folks like me who don't like social media!

Unfortunately I haven't yet been out driving mine as its still a build but really can't wait to get out and about in it. Are you enjoying yours? Completely agree about the forum, I know we've got fb groups which are seriously helpful, the advice on that group is unreal, but I do like to follow a goof forum build and see them start to finish lol Thanks again mate, appreciate the comments

I wouldn't recommend the perspex at all, if that breaks it'll shatter and be like glass. Far better to use polycarbonate or foam board or aluminium. IVA don't really like wiring looms, fuel or brake pipes hall on to the chassis just with a cable tie. You can use cable ties if you have some sort of plastic/metal clip that is riveted to the frame first. (they don't consider it permanent enough)

Happy New Year all So, since my last update on here I have made some more progress and ticked a few more jobs off. Starting with the simple/ not so interesting jobs, I made some mounts for my wing mirrors. I then painted these black, applied some edge trim to them to keep Mr IVA Happy, and bolted them to the inside of the car on the space frame. (I don't have any pics of this yet but will grab some and upload them with the finishing build pics) Headlight BracketsI then made some brackets for my headlights/ sidelights and indicators. I used 3mm Steel Flat Bar for this and bent/ welded up as required. I am using twin dominator projector headlights on my build. Once these were on the car, I put some pics on the fb forum and all the members advised me they would flap about quite badly, so upon this advice, I have since added some struts going from the tubular chassis, to the far edge of these brackets so they can move up/ down at all. Great advice as always from other members!

Respraying PanelsSo, my panels came in gloss black, however I wanted a slight clash between the GRP and the actual chassis itself. I have had the panels resprayed in a Satin Black. This does mean I will have to purchase completely different car cleaning products to what I currently have as I will want to keep the satin finish as it is. I don't yet have any pictures of the panels on the car since they have been sprayed but they will be uploaded at a later date. Centre ConsoleI also stood back and realised I didn't like how I had previously made the centre console (not the curved panel, I will be keeping/ using that) but the original panel what sat below. Because of this, I made my mould out of cardboard (CAD) and then lined this with aluminium tape so that my fiberglass could be easily removed after. Believe it or not, even to my shock, this works a treat!! The pics below or after only one layer of Fiberglass matting, however I have since built up to 3 layers, cut out the panel properly and sanded down etc, it just needs wrapping in material and fitting to the car. Pics to come of that once finished, but for now, the mould Thanks for looking, apologies that there aren't any 'finished' pics of the recent updates, I kept moving on to the next part without taking pics lol
