SideskirtsShort and sweet, I have now fitted my sideskirts to the car with tigerseal, A LOT of tigerseal! To keep the panels in place whilst i left them for 48hrs to cure, I used a very professional and calculated approach.... Now for one of my favourite updates...............

ExhaustI was excited for this part, as I wanted to choose something completely custom and unique, built to my specs. 200 cell sports cat, with 2.5" all the way back, twin staggered mufflers and no back box. Now, the dB count is close, very, however I have since purchased 2 x dB killers which I will fit before the IVA. I chose not to have a backbox as don't like them when they are seen, and I wanted something different. I chose to use Cobra Motorsports for this and the service was great. The cat and exhaust has been spec'd and made up to cater for a turbo (Post IVA) so will not need to go buy another after lol I appreciate this isn't to everyone's taste however it's my build and my vision, each to their own I guess. Now for the reveal! I will get some more updates and pics posted asap, thanks for taking the time to look and all the helpful advice from everyone so far!

So, car is close to being finished. I have added some db killers in to the tailpipes as it would have exceeded the noise limit as it is. Rather than drilling through the tailpipes to secure these, I have shaved a few mm of the face of the db killers and used circlips to hold them in place (extremely tight and no movement at all, so no rattles or concerns there) I am now going around making sure everything is edge trimmed and all nuts/ bolts have the appropriate covers on where required. I will take the car to a garage before IVA to have emissions, brakes and headlight positioning checked. I know local garages can't do the same brake tests that will be done at the IVA, and I have new pads/ discs all around so slightly concerned about this but not really sure what else I can do. I need to start taking some pictures of how it looks now from all angles etc but the most recent i have is this sideshot.

For the brakes, I've done a track day to bed them in, also taken them with all new & unrun, both have passed.

No chance of doing a track day before the IVA but will be driving it for the last part of the journey to the IVA so hopefully that will help (even if just a tiny bit).

Just be careful if you are considering driving, the fee as you know (I'm sure) is £460 if you fail to turn up or are late you lose it, you only need a small issue at the side of the road for it all to go pear shaped. I presume you will be going to Derby? I've done the last 2 there, previously used to go to Nottingham, daft thing is one of the two testers only lives in Conisborough & travels each day. Last test I went to fill it up with fuel in Worksop & got on at Barlborough, he got on at Bramley, there was a tanker on it's side between Aston where I would normally get on & Barlborough, he arrived nearly 2 hours late. I did ask if he'd got through & I had been 2 hours late would he have still tested, I didn't get an answer

I wanted to use the Nottingham one originally but they are no longer doing it are they. Im going to fill it with Jerry cans and then maybe even top up after the last bit of drive there as read somewhere they like to see a full tank? Ha, mmmm, I bet you'd still be sat waiting for his answer! How was the experience at Derby?

Never taken one FULL, always been up towards it but not brimmed off, it's only for the weights, there is no requirement for a fuel gauge so they wouldn't know either way.
As to the experience itself I've always gone with the expectation that it's going to fail & if it passes it's a bonus. You've paid a lot of money for the experience so it's best to try to enjoy it, although I always come away thinking I've been ripped off, £460 for that! Especially when you are expected to be his assistant & sit in the car, turn steering, press brake, pull handbrake etc.
Never met a real grumpy tester yet, I 'think' as long as you go with the right attitude then you'll be fine, both the testers at Derby (unless they have changed) have the I want it to pass attitude, but they have a job to do with a set of rules, if you are outside the rules it's also their job to fail you.
Ask questions, if he says X is not correct, ask him what his interpretation of the rules for that is, as it might not be the same as yours, ask him what he would find acceptable & if appropriate say "Well if I did a,b,c would you be okay with that?"
The Exocet is a real easy car to get through IVA, I have done 2, first one passed first time, the second only failed as it had been stood 3 months & a rear caliper slide bolt had seized. When I stripped it back down there was no grease in the slide, the other 3 calipers had, still not sure why, all I can think is I got disturbed when doing it, had to pack away & had intended to go back to finish & never did.
Finding Derby test centre is a bit weird, you think you're going down a road to nowhere, but Google maps does take you straight to it.

Completely agree, i am going to the test with the expectation of a fail (not because I think it should do, but because it's my first one and I would be lucky if id managed to get everything spot on), this way i wont be too disappointed if I come away with a fail. I will be using apple or google maps so hopefully should find it ok but at least now you've warned me that at some point I will be questioning where its taking me I'll show interest and certainly ask for his advice and stuff on fail points, like you've said, they are there to do a job but clearly have an interest in cars otherwise wouldn't be doing it so surely they would like it to pass/ thanks again for all the info, some solid advice there Id love for it to be on the road for this summer!

Take some tools, tie wraps, P clips, edging trim etc with you in case you can fix a fail easily while there. Good luck with the test!

They did have an earlier slot as well but it was for Beverley and I wanted Derby so took this slot. 8am start, it's only an hours drive but gonna give myself plenty of time to get there. thanks mate, looking forward to it in a way, but will be on edge throughout the test no doubt ha

Hi Jay- quick question - have you fitted the MEV Front upper suspension arms? I have them and I cannot get the polybushes in the kit supplied by MEV to fit ... the Inside diameter of the arms is 39 mm and the bush is 40mm ... even cleaning off Powder coat ... they are 1 mm too small ! Thans Gareth
