I think the stock wheels are 14", my donor came with 17's, but there is plenty of clearance with the 15's. There is room for stick on weights inside the rim. Interesting 2 of the wheel/tyre assemblies needed no weight to balance, the other 2 only a few grams, good wheels and tyres!

I seem to have an odd problem, I have no problem posting the first image but if I try to post a second image the box pops up with the first line of my text in it, I delete the text and copy the link from Photobucket but when I click insert that image is inserted but all my text and the first image are deleted. Any suggestions?

Are they the wheels from MEV? What size tyres have you fitted? I am looking for 80-82 profile and think i will have to go 205 to fit 7Js correctly. Current favourites are Vredestein 205 70 15 as i can't find any suitable width 80 profile. Yea, I got the wheels with the kit, my tyres are 195/65R-15., same size as the MEV demonstrator. About 2" taller than the stock MX5 tyre, my calculations make that about 9% rolling diameter increase - so the stock speedo will be off.

Seems like I can only insert one image per post.

Wheels mounted with Dunlop tyres, seemed fitting even if they are made in Japan. RHD sub frame and steering rack installed, also fuel tank.

Major job dismantling the crate, as I thought is heavier than the kit, those packing guys must go crazy with the nail gun. It did the job though, everything came through in good shape.

After 4 weeks at sea and 10 days to clear customs I got my crate; Currently at our daughter's place in California with the donor parts. Next week's jobs, head back to the High Desert, unpack the crate, get tyres fitted to the new wheels, assemble the chassis with the RHD subframe, once it is at the rolling stage get it all on a trailer and back to our place in Arizona.

Easy dismantle - no rust! Lifted the body with an engine hoist, only had a short length of chain but it bolted across the seat mounts OK. When I got it high enough to clear the engine it flipped on it's side, the open bonnet and the hoist stopped it going upside down. Realized that I had suspended it below the center of mass and the body was top heavy; note use a longer chain next time! Luckily no-one was watching and it made it easy to remove the fuel tank, filter and pipes!

Found a US donor, 1994 Miata 'M' with a lot of miles but drives well. Beat up body, ratty interior and top plus a cracked windshield so I don't feel bad about scrapping it. Usually find a few coins when you get the carpets out - hit the jackpot with this one - about $10 worth of change!!

Hi Mitch, I've just shipped a kit to the USA West Coast, there is a very helpful shipper in Ripley near the MEV headquarters. They build the crate, the US requires that all wood be certified bug-free, pack and handle shipping. I'll let you know how good a packing job they did when I collect it at the Port of Los Angeles in about a month! The crate is 412 x 191 x 112 cm L X W X H and the weight is 692 kgs (that's with the front sub-frame, steering rack and 4 wire wheels). Don't know about torsional rigidity, I've heard of the Australian test, does the government do the test or are you required to supply evidence that the chassis meets the requirements? Is the test done on a bare chassis or complete with sub-frames etc. bolted in? Cheers, John T

Nice pic! Good to see the original suspension systems. I saw the battery location on one of the originals but wasn't sure if it was a second battery. I'm thinking of a location on the Replicar behind the LH rear bulkhead in front of the suspension, a bit more weight to the rear.

I'm a believer in the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) principle, keep everything as standard as possible, at least for the initial build. You can then decide on modifications and improvements.

Looking at the picture you realize the Replicar is probably more aerodynamic going backwards
