Did you get the kit shipped from the UK already? Geoff is in the UK We can sort out packing the chassis and panels onto a pallet for international customers, all you need to do is get it picked up. Sorry, got the threads mixed up!

Realistically you are not going to be driving and open car with a hot radiator in front and a even hotter engine behind when the temp is over 40°! But on a chilly morning it's nice to feel the warm air when the thermostat opens.

update. Added some heat protection from the Focus. You will need it, took my Sonic out for a run @ 44°C to check cooling, ran a couple of miles over 160 KPH - engine cooled fine, driver was being cooked, recorded 68° cabin temp, it felt hotter!

I've just shipped a kit (not a MEV) from the UK to US West Coast, the shipping company - WBC is located near MEV's previous location and do a great job of packing and shipping but a lot more expensive than it was a few years ago when I shipped a Replicar.

The build I started in Wales, has arrived after a long and expensive trip across the Atlantic (and through the Panama Canal then North to LA) the garage is a bit crowded, I need to sell the Sonic.

What is the problem with the uprights? They are pretty solid, the wheel bearings and nylon bushings are replaceable.

Mazda specify idle voltage 13 - 15 @ 20 deg C, higher at lower temperatures and with a load e.g. lights on. The wires from the ECU, grey and grey/red should be 0V and 3 - 8V (not sure which is which).
Make sure the warning light is working correctly, on with key on, off with engine running, some generators use it as the exciter circuit.

I think any 1999 - 2000 US spec, manual transmission harness will work for you. Variations for different trim levels are probably just for accessories - audio systems etc.
I'm not sure if this is relevant to NB models but I made this little video talking about the engine wiring for a NA a few years ago:

Just out of interest I checked the weight of the Sonic yesterday, for the record, 1,360 lbs (617 kg) with about 3/4 tank of petrol. Just about 1/2 the weight of the SVT Focus.

The other day it was a bit cooler so decided to take the Sonic for a run – pulled out of the garage and it died. Fuel pump was running but no fuel, checked the tank and the pump pickup strainer had disintegrated: There are 2 strainers, one on the outside of the swirl pot and one inside both were bad. Installed a complete new pump and external filter and it seems to run OK. Trying to figure out what happened, I’ve never seen anything like this. The pump was the original one from the 2003 Focus so probably 17 years old but I realized the last time out was to check the cooling, it was about 110°F (43°C) was able to run it over 100 MPH for a mile or so and engine temp seemed OK but a lot of heat coming over the wind shield, certainly very hot in the cockpit, not fun, I figure this is a 30°C max temperature car. However the fuel tank is right behind the radiator and must have been getting hot – possibly the cause of the strainer failure? I haven’t installed the vent on the front cover: But may have to.

The two smaller connections are probably for an automatic transmission cooler, you can leave them open or cap them off. The good news is that it should be a higher capacity radiator, I think about a third more than the standard radiator.

I now regret pulling the engine apart when not in the best state of mind, as I've removed all of the vacuum pipes without making a note of where they went - if anybody can help with pictures or diagrams of what is required for the BP4W engine, that'd be appreciated. The best vacuum diagram usually is the one on the donor car, if you still have the bonnet it may be there, otherwise see if you can find someone with the same spec MX5 and take a picture.

How are your side pods secured on the flap in the cockpit as can't see any obvious bolts/rivets? The side panels are a pretty snug fit - I just have one M6 bolt at the front and rear:

Actually something similar to your avatar . Was planning to start the build in Wales this Summer - you think your workshop is remote .
