Hi,
I would like to know what sort of services are on offer to send a replicar kit to Australia. Would a replicar be boxed up in its factory or would that need doing by a shipping/freighting company? Does anyone know what dimensions a crated kit is?
A question on a different topic, is there any information on the torsional rigidity of the replicar chassis? In Australia one of the requirements to get a kit car on the road is a torsional rigidity of over 4000Nm/deg.
Sorry for so many questions. I would love to get one of these fantastic looking kit cars on the road downunder.
Thanks in advance, Mitch

Hi Mitch, I've just shipped a kit to the USA West Coast, there is a very helpful shipper in Ripley near the MEV headquarters. They build the crate, the US requires that all wood be certified bug-free, pack and handle shipping. I'll let you know how good a packing job they did when I collect it at the Port of Los Angeles in about a month! The crate is 412 x 191 x 112 cm L X W X H and the weight is 692 kgs (that's with the front sub-frame, steering rack and 4 wire wheels). Don't know about torsional rigidity, I've heard of the Australian test, does the government do the test or are you required to supply evidence that the chassis meets the requirements? Is the test done on a bare chassis or complete with sub-frames etc. bolted in? Cheers, John T

You might do well contacting the Australian agent for the Rocket, they have to increase the rigidity to get the Rocket allowed into Australia, might be able to advise how to do it.
They also had to put a nose cone on it but that would not be an issue with a Replicar I would have thought due to the standard nose shape.

Hi John,
Thanks for the information. Did I read correctly that the crated weight was 692kg? That seems like a lot even with the front sub-frame and wheels. Is there any chance that I could get some details for the freight company off you?
In regards to the the torsional test I am not entirely clear myself. I am new to the kit car world but there is a good Australian forum for clubmans which should be able to answer the question. My basic knowledge would say that the sub-frames would be attached for the test but I could be wrong.
Kiwi,
The agent for the Rocket is over in WA so they could probably help. I believe that no Replicars have made it downunder yet so it would be treated as an ICV (Aus equivalent of IVA) and would need everything signed off with an engineer. There is also a new agent for the Exocet which is very local to me but I am not sure if they would have the time to assist with a replicar build as they are just starting up now.
Thanks, Mitch
