nice job! Your exhaust looks miles away from the tank so it will be fine. Rear reflectors may have egde that is less than 2.5mm which can be questioned.May be worth taking a spare pair just in case.

Hi Newgy. I live in middle of Norfolk. 30 minutes drive from Norwich. Be interesting to hear about yoir IVA experience in Norwich as is likely to be where I take "Mutley" when it's ready. Be also good to have a look at your build sometime and pick your brains... Mick in Watton, North of Thetford.

IVA Report
It was a two hour drive to the test center and the appointment was at 8am at the Norwich test center, cold, cold, cold. Left at 5.30am, when I arrived the inspector took pity on me and we sat in the office with a welcome cup of tea before we started. The inspector was very friendly and helpful, he was obviously experienced and said he seen one other Exocet and many other kits cars.
The start of the test could not have been worse, failed the emissions test. Although this was not too concerning because I thought the CAT was not hot enough. But what was bad was the fuel leaking on the bottom of the tank! I had been driving for two hours with fuel dripping from the back of the car too make matters worse it was black and oily looking. I thought it was all over before it even started!
The inspector was great, not overly concerned and said let complete the rest of the test and I would have some tinkering time at the end.
Full check of the car, then car went on the ramp, left lock right lock and an inspection underneath. Turned the engine on and off operated the brakes. Then he went through the lights check operating indicators fog lights etc. The headlight needed some adjustment and the rear indicator were not mirrored, so I had to turn the indicator through 90 degrees.
Pause for a cup of tea.
Then break check and speed check and that was it. No noise test, no 100 mm ball, no questions, no need for the many pictures I had saved on my ipad.
He left me to sit in the car and warm up the cat for 5 minutes then we got thought the emissions test. Then he left to complete the paperwork and left me some tinkering time. I thought the leak was coming from the flexible inlet pipe because I had never had a full tank. If it was not this I doubted I could fix it in a short time. I had to completely remove the rear cover and low and behold it was leaking at the bottom of the flexible fuel inlet pipe. The fuel was stripping the black from the tank. The jubilee clip I had on it was not upto the job. I managed to move it to the back if the pipe and tighten it enough to stop the leak. In the process spilling fuel all over the test floor!
I let the inspector take a look and he said pass!
The inspectors at Norwich were very helpful and applied common sense to the build, I think Norwich is one of the better ones, he did say that other centers will apply the test to the letter and not all are the same. Overall they are very helpful, want you to pass and if they see your build is good go out of there way to help.
I seem to remember another builder with a leaky filler fuel pipe, I will put a more robust clip on the pipe. So now i need to apply for registration and happy driving! Best advice i can give is do the test in summer!

That’s brilliant news, congratulations!
My IVA is on Thursday next week. Similar story, 60 miles to get there for 8am. I’m going to wear a full face helmet and my ski gear!
I’m also going to put an extra jubilee clip on the fuel filler 😉
All being well, our Exocets will be registered in the same month (fingers crossed).

very well done chap, and what a great heart warming story. It reads so well, starting off with an obvious oh dear and then after rapid reading to the end you find a happy ending, I love a happy ending!

35 in a 30 zone, mobile speed camera driving back from IVA test DOH! I think they would not have zapped me if I was driving a mondeo! 35 in a 30 seriously, be aware! I was legal because I was coming back from IVA and have insurance. But the licence plate is till registered to the donor vehicle and sworn, they have not questioned any of this just called it a kit car in the letter description.

After a two hour drive home from the IVA test I checked around the car and found to my dismay a leaky water pump. I have been trying for a couple of days to remove the crank pulley bolt. The first problem is the clearance between the bolt and frame does not allow me to get a breaker bar on the bolt. So I have had to use a torque wrench (which is now destroyed). Putting the car in 5 gear and with the hand brake fully engaged I can turn the pulley one quarter turn and bolt does not budge because the crank is not locked in. The pulley also move 1/4 turn. I have tried resting the wrench on the frame and trying to turn the engine with the starter motor, about 10 attempts tonight and still no success. Tried putting the car in first gear and pushing it forward no success. One other option is taking a run up and dumping the clutch. I fear I may have to remove the engine to get full access and lock the crank somehow. Has anyone had similar problems or offer some words of wisdom? I thought my days of trying to remove stubborn bolts was over

When I spoke to the IVA inspector he said I had done the right thing by covering my number plates. Technically it’s an offence to drive a car with plates registered to another vehicle and an unregistered vehicle SHOULD be driven with no plates. Difficult to find definitive guidance online, but that’s what the VOSA guy said.

Never mind! I just took delivery of the thing I linked (got it slightly cheaper on eBay actually). I do indeed definitely need it. Also had to order a tool to remove the harmonic damper. Hopefully I can finish fettling engine things over the weekend.
