Just FYI, mine's a 2002 NB but I found the hub nuts were 29 front and 31 rear. NA's might be different.

NAs are 29mm at both ends as far as I know. I'll find out for sure when I take the rear apart I ordered the 29mm deep impact socket from www.toolstoday.co.uk £14.87 including postage. Halfords dont sell them, Machine Mart have them on special order that takes 10 days (!)

In case it helps anyone: another option is to borrow a 3/4" drive socket set from someone with trucks or a farm etc. These sets have the strength and there's an imperial size socket that's a good match if you can only find an imperial set.

I buy a fair bit from Machine Mart, and I know we all think everything is cheaper online, but don't forget your local car parts shop as my 29 & 31mm impact wrench sockets were each much cheaper than that, so it's always worth a look. Mine have been also offered trade discount as I'm frequently there when stuck!

Perhaps you could hire out your socket 😄

Perhaps you could hire out your socket 😄 Is that a euphemism?

There was a proposal in the forum somewhere about having a "tool bank" or something similar, would be great for those odd, only used once tools. I believe mawdo81 had something to do with it.

So the advice about cracking off the hub nuts when the car is still largely intact was clearly good advice - I now cant undo them because my impact gun battery has died over the winter, and I cant budge them even with jack handle + breaker bar! Luckily, I think my mate has the same gun as me, so I'll borrow a battery off him at the weekend

Yep, I sent a brake pipe bender into this tool set, I reckon the kit could do with an IVA-friendly-but-ugly light set, engine crane and stand; things that you use for a period in the build but don't need long-term.

So my mates impact gun is also no good! Luckily, he had a 1" drive socket and bar that we got the front hubs off with. No luck with the back ones though, so I still have the driveshafts attached to the uprights and hubs, and the lower arm too as I cant get the bolt out! I've started painting the chassis, and we've traced the floor shapes out of the aluminium sheet, but these last few rear drivetrain parts are really getting me down, not sure what to do as I've got everything else in my van ready to take for soda blasting and this is holding that whole process up!

Have you tried applying heat with a small torch? Often times heat can really work to get these very stubborn nuts loose.

I used long soaks in 50/50 mix of ATF & Acetone rather than WD40. That said, the 450Nm shoved out by the Clarke impact gun might just have ripped them off anyway.
