Following with interest. We have a mutual friend in Nikki H-H and she pointed me in your direction when I mentioned considering a kit car earlier and said an Exocet was high on the list.

I've been trying to talk Russ into getting one, no success yet though Finished painting: Got some rivets on: Got the stuff back from soda blasting: Time to make it all look like a car again

When we mention about rivets not going in where the seat bolts go, we should also mention about trying to avoid putting them where they get trapped between the floor and the front subframe - not that anyone's ever done that (ahem).... I could perhaps have mentioned that sooner

The second one in from the inside does indeed foul the front subframe. Should I drill it out or use a washer on the subframe bolt?

In my case it was only a slight overlap and a shaved off the small part of the rivet head that was 'trapped'. In your case I think personally I'd drill out but seal against water penetration before bolting to subframe.

Drilled that rivet out, much less work than I thought it was going to be, which was good. All riveting now complete, seat bolt holes drilled, front subframe mounting holes drilled. And the brake pipe mounted as well. Need to get some bigger diameter Pclips for the fuel pipe. We started to assemble the newly blasted and painted components, so the engine/gearbox and front subframe, prop shaft, aluminium brace, rear diff and rear subframe, and the suspension arms (including the front upper arms modified with the MEV 'bananas') is all back together in a roughly car-shaped ensemble. I fitted the cycle wing supports to the front uprights before putting the hubs back on - one of the wheel bearings (possibly both, tbh) has not survived the blasting so we'll need to get new ones. I have a list of stuff to buy. And then on Easter Monday I went and fell off my little motocross bike and have done an as-yet-undetermined amount of damage to my right shoulder, which I suspect will put paid to not only my Minibike Champs race at Doncaster at the weekend, but also to any further work (certainly heavy lifting work) on the car for the next few weeks at least

Ooh nasty - unlucky on the shoulder issue - over to Emma for next stage of the build then?

At least I've done all the riveting now, no way would I have been able to do any more of those for the moment. Emma couldn't even manage it at all with the rivet gun we borrowed from my brother, so a full strength Emma is about as strong as a Jeff with a bad shoulder lol We think the shoulder injury is minor, so a few day's rest and some painkillers is in order, hopefully I'll regain strength and range of movement quickly. Its already improved since yesterday so fingers crossed

The older we get the less we bounce when we hit the ground.. Stay off the pain killers if you can.. They can get out of hand..

Hopefully not a dislocated shoulder. Once its been dislocated, its prone popping back out again. I'm going through rehabbing mine right now.

Its definitely not dislocated. I did go to the race this weekend, and managed to ride without pain for most of the event, albeit nowhere near my normal pace. Picked up some points and didnt crash too much, so it was a successful trip. A lot of the normal range of movement has returned, so I hope to be back to normal in a week or two.

Shoulder update- I'm not back to normal, but it is slowly improving. The worst thing is waking up every night at 4/5am and not being able to get back to sleep due to the pain. Car update- Priced up all the stuff we need from mx5parts - comes to about £400 Biggest killer is the front wheel bearings which are £60 each, but we also need bottom ball joints, the long bolts + nuts for the rear lower arms, discs pads and flexi pipes all round, a track rod end, fuel and oil filters. Oh well, should be the last big expense (apart from wheels/tyres if we go for the fancy ones I like) and then we can get on with building it. Also, Tein springs have arrived, so I have some extra bright green shiny things to install later
