Hello everyone, I'm Dave (aka Rumm). I'm starting this thread to document my build. (Exocet Sport - Frame #187) I bought a 99 miata back in August of 2015. It had 135k miles on it at that time and smoked furiously for a few minutes after starting. I drove it home and immediately started the tear down of the engine. Below are some of the photos of the rebuild. After rebuilding the engine, I had planned on using the car for track days and weekend drives in the mountains. At that time I installed a hard dog roll bar. Little did I know that I wasn't going to need it. Soon after, a friend pointed me in the direction of the Exocet. I went and visited Steadfast (Thanks again for the ride Geoff!) in January and with-in a week (Jan 13th), I had submitted my order via Keith at FM. I have been waiting patiently for the past few months, buying a part here and there and storing them in my spare bedroom. This past Friday, I received an email from Keith @ FM letting me know that "It's Exocet time!" and that my kit is being packed up and it will be on its way soon. More updates to come over the next few weeks.

Welcome to the fun!
I believe I have the same Corbeau seats. They fit great.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! After much a do, I received my kit today. Long story short, UPS Freight had the wrong address, then refused to deliver it since it wouldn't fit on a lift gate. So tonight after work I took a 15ft U-Haul to pick it up. After about an hour in 880 traffic, I made it home and was able to open it up. I'm hoping to get the body off the skate by the end of the weekend.

Anyone from the bay area have a recommendation for a powder coat shop?

Santa Clara powder coating is what Luke used. Turned out great, and was reasonable.

What colour are you going to do the frame in?

Santa Clara powder coating is what Luke used. Turned out great, and was reasonable. Thanks, I will give them a call and see how it goes. What colour are you going to do the frame in? I had first thought about baby blue, but I have since changed my mind and I will be going with black. Black will be easy to keep clean. Additionally black will go with many different color combinations if I get tired of the very bright orange.

Blue would look great, there's a lot of black around but that's for the reasons you've given!

Or a dark gun metal gray. Better then black, like said to many blacks now.. You want the colors to flow not stand out as 2 different ones..

Hi all, I was unable to get the body removed over the weekend, but I finished it last night. Below are a few pictures of it during removal. I opted to drop the gas tank before lifting the body. This worked out pretty well and only required removing 4 more bolts. I am hoping to hear back from the powder coating company with an estimate to do the chassis today. If all goes well, I would like to get it dropped off in the next couple weeks. I'm liking gwnwar's suggestion of a gun metal. As you may be able to tell, we have a couple projects going on the garage. For the time being, I have set the chassis on top of the skate, but I am hoping to break down the front and rear subframes to get them powder coated as well. While they are broke down, I'm thinking about replacing the bushings. Anyone have any positive or negative experiences to share about the rubber bushings that flyinmiata carries? Time to get rid of the tub after stripping it take VIN off dash and firewall did you remove the shock top mounts from tub. Front end to spec racer maybe tub.. You won't get but maybe $25. for it scrapped..Shipping doors and body parts cost to much have to go local.. If not working on the stang make a 4x4 wood beam frame and some large caster wheels and move it outside.. If you are allowed to were you live. Looking good so far..

Rumm...There is a black powdercoat that is a hammer black. BK-62 is the industry number used. It is a textured powedercoat that looks great on a tube chassis car frame. I have a few example photos if you want to see?
