I ran into an issue with my BnL here since I didn't have one. Just needed to be on the car, down facing and covered with a lens. I bought a cheap light from Oriely and temporarily mounted it to the rear of my car.

Hi Rumm - when you went to get your brake and light inspection, know you mentioned having to get the license plate light hooked up. My question is, does it have to be mounted, or just show that it lights up? Since I don't have plates yet, not sure where to drill the holes. I can just pull my plate of my existing car and use it as a template though. Also, any idea if a front plate is required? I had my holder mounted so I'm not positive if you would get by without it mounted. I will note that I have read about others that did not require having one at all. As for a front plate, when I did my B&L I didn't have plates and had no issue. Now that the car is legal, I have plates and I still have yet to mount the front plate.

As a matter of insurance, I'd go with a coolant reroute. While airflow around the motor is better the issue is that coolant still has trouble getting around all of the cylinders without it. After bumping up to a dual-core radiator a lot of my overheating issues NA have been largely resolved but I'm still going to do the re-route when I turbo my Exocet. Speaking of which, I'm pretty curious about your experience going with the FM setup. I'm sort of rolling my own with the use of a Kraken cast manifold and TD04L-13t turbo from a Subaru Forester XT. ( backed up with Megasquirt, ID1000 injectors, Deatchwerks fuel pump, etc...) I'm still pulling all of my parts together but I'm looking to land at around $2500 for my setup. Tell me more of the machine shop that you're using? I want to have the head on my BP rebuilt since a couple of my HLAs sound like they're on their last legs. Missed this post from a few days ago. $2500 sounds like a fantastic deal for a bit more power. If I had more time and knowledge I would have loved to try to piece something together. Most of my time lately has been spent helping my roommate work on his twin turbo 66 mustang. So far for turbo parts/prep, I have picked up the following: Ebay special (Hawley Performance) coolant reroute kit for $165. MegaSquirt PNP Gen2 for $849 via DIYAUTOTUNE Innovate LC1 Wideband for $165 via Amazon If I get time tomorrow, I'm going to give FlyinMiata a call and see if I can get the FMII no electronics kit ordered. Hoping to get it with a 3 inch down pipe as well. I'll provide a bit more of an update when all my parts come in. As for a shop, I have been using Rob's Machine Shop. I have heard that he builds the "race" engines provided by a miata shop in the area, so I cut out the middle man. The shop isn't exactly cheap, but it seems like quality work. I may also swing by his shop tomorrow (if all goes to plan) to drop my head off to get the valves adjusted.

I continued my turbo shopping spree this week. On Tuesday, I put in my order with FlyinMiata. For the FMII no electronics kit with 700cc DeatschWerks injectors and stage 1 happy meal my total (with power club discount and shipping) came to $4,017.35. Unfortunately the manifold is on back order and the kit should be coming in by the end of the month. Eric was unable to verify the 3 inch down pipe would fit in the Exocet, so I ended up opting for the 2.5 inch.
I also reached out to Exomotive to get some sound readings about the Enthuzacar turbo exhaust they offer for sale. I'm hoping to be able to run closed sound days at Laguna Seca (92db). Taylor ran an unofficial decibel reading on thier XP-3 (FMII with Enthuzacar exhaust). The test from a few feet away came in at 93.8db. I went ahead and put in an order which came in at $531.35. Worst case scenario for closed sound days I can put in a turn out away from the mic. Again this is on back order and I hope to see it roughly the end of January.
At this point, I believe everything I need is on order, just need to wait for it to all come in. Although I still have an open diff :/ Maybe I can stumble into a new one of those before the other parts come in.

As I get ready to pull the trigger on my project, there’s one thing holding me back. I’ve never seen an exocet, completed or otherwise. Would it be possible to get a look at yours? My work takes me to Berkeley a couple of days each week; a trip down to SJ would be convenient on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening. BTW, I've tried to PM you, but am getting rejected.

Sorry I no longer live in the bay area. I moved to Orange county a couple months back. I really need to post an update. The car has been up and running with the FMII kit and it is amazing. I'll see what I can do sometime this week.

This car has brought me more smiles per gallon than any other car I have owned or even ridden in, but unfortunately different priorities have come up and I have to set it free. I'm selling my Exocet since I plan on taking an RV trip around the country later this year.

The Exocet currently has 141k miles on it: 5k overall on the Exocet build and and 3k on the engine rebuild and FM2 turbo kit.
Car is 100% street legal in California and the sale will include fenders that are not shown. I have a California title in hand, therefore it will be easy to transfer and register with DMV It was registered in October 2016 as a Specially Constructed Vehicle and passed BAR inspection as a 1960 therefore this car does not require smog checks.
Located in Westminster CA, 92683.
Upon receipt of payment, you will receive a bill of sale, signed title, keys, and any other parts that I have laying around.
I may also be willing to trade for an RV of similar or greater value.
Thanks, David aka rumm
