Been away on vacation for a few weeks followed by some business travel but back home for a month so hopefully a bit of progress. Not managed much last week but made a little progress, primary job has been to try and finally finish off the wiring in dash area and under dash panelling. Made up some large templates for under the dash panels. Only 2 sheets of aluminium left so didn't want to get this wrong. Untitled by Scott Graham, on Flickr Spent best part of a whole day fettling these panels to get the right fit, frustrating when I want to get the body fitted but feel once I drop the body on some of these detail jobs may get pushed aside by the lure of getting IVA’d and on the road. Going to be fully trimmed so will need to fine tune to allow for carpet and edge trim but happy with general fit and the fact it hides all he wiring. Also did the top plate above the bulkhead, limited the width to cover main wiring and plan to use a flexible plastic or heavy rubber sheet to seal the gap between dash and aluminium panel. by -Tojeiro 74-Used more door sealing strip to keep out any moisture from sudden rain shower (I do live in Scotland) by -Tojeiro 74-This week I aim to finish fitting the suspension and driving out the garage so that I can clean up a bit. Ordered something very left field for exhaust backbox, not cheap so hope it works.

Suspension fitted and everything torqued up. Had to reset the tracking as I had load of toe out after replacing both track rod ends. Seems to sit at a decent height with the Protech suspension, currently have the spring seat wound up about 60% front and 80% rear which just starts to add preload on the springs on full droop. by -Tojeiro 74-My new exhaust also arrived, will need some cutting and welding to fit the mx5 centre section connection but managed a temp connection for a quick test and think it sounds awesome. Going to keep it a secret at the moment until I can get it fully fitted after checking body position. Hoping to do first fit of body in next 10 days, but have a question here Obvious mounting positions under bonnet and rear outrigger and sills, what about behind rear bulkhead, do I need to add some support or padding in this area ?

So apart from rear brace issue posted elsewhere body dropped on without any issue. by -Tojeiro 74-One question is what should be done in this area ? by -Tojeiro 74-Should it be totally clear of all steelwork or should there be some sort of support ? I was thinking about some thick rubber or strong foam bonded between frame and body, concerned unsupported could lead to shell movement and distortion issues later.

Cheers, I like that and helps visualise where to place, quite hard to judge positions and clearances with the body lowered.

Press made short work of modifying the rear brace (also made short work of the powdercoating) by -Tojeiro 74-Plan to modify this further by splitting in the complete brace in half so that I can remove the rear half without having to remove the subframe bolts all the time. Just working out where my new exhaust will sit and then can maybe combine the new split joining plates with required exhaust hangers. Ordered some hard rubber bump stops for the upper rear body support. Just waiting on some new argon for the welder then I'll get cracking on all the body brackets. You know you are spending too much on cars when eBay upgrades you to their Concierge service, not sure what to explain to the wife next time she logs in 🤷🏼♀️

Not done much on the build as my time has been spent prepping my MX5 for sale, before I advertise I decided to swap wheels to see if I might keep the ones I had on my MX5 and just sell with standard alloys. Managed to get a dry 1/2hr to get it out the garage and dusted down a bit. by -Tojeiro 74- by -Tojeiro 74- by -Tojeiro 74-

Looking for advice on fixing the body sides to the floor. Current plan is to bond 2 strips of 3mm aluminium on the inside of the body on each side and bolt through that into large rivetnuts fixed into the side floor extensions. Was concerned at just bolting through the fibreglass to the floor directly, to bond the strips I ordered some 3M 5200 adhesive which is meant to stick to anything. Would plan to glass over the strips also. Please see dodgy sketch (hard to believe I was a draughtsman years ago) Advice or alternatives welcome. by -Tojeiro 74-

Certainly opens up the space under the boot lid (which I dont have ) or is this where silencer will live? btw on the body floor interface, which looks like a good idea to me, wouldn't you be better with lots of small bolts and rivnuts thereby spreading the load? This would also reduce the pull and stress on the rivnuts making them less likely to pull out but if one did it would have less impact.

Been considering different exhuast options but for now just going with a cheap Mondeo backbox but mounted in straight through position between the rear support rails. Was originally going to use the top support tubes but it is rock solid and like the idea of extra boot space. For the side fixings still not started, my concept was to clamp aluminium to aluminium rather than put load on the fibre glass body. Spent a whole day on Saturday fabricating front body mounts. Now in etch primer, still to get a coat of matching frame grey. by -Tojeiro 74- by -Tojeiro 74-Made them in a way that they slide over the mounting tabs on the front of the frame and then are bolted through, took ages to work out the right angles as the bonnet mounting point slopes in 2 axis. Going to drill the top plate once I have all mounting points and brackets finished.
