Squelch, no brace this is a '91 1.6L. dont think ive ever seen a brace though. i have the roll bar pictured in earlier snaps.
Andy, ive upgraded the hoses to Hel braided, which comes with a replacement splitter box for the back which is a tiny bit smaller and seems to fit. Ive also got the plastic panel on the inside of the car rather than on the back, this may help???

I also do not have a brace on my '91 1.6L. I believe the 90-91.5 models do not have the mounting tabs/points for the factory rear brace. It looks like Mazdaspeed sells tabs that you can weld in place to attach the factory rear subframe bar: www.mazdaspeeddevelopment.com/specmiataparts.htm (It's under "Optional Parts" --> "Subframe Bracing Tabs") There are also some other aftermarket companies like Racing Beat that carry subframe braces made specifically for the 90-91.5: www.good-win-racing.com/mazda/miata/20-1090.html - However, I could see that design causing a problem for some types of exhaust systems.

they look pretty good, but like you said, exhaust issues from anything other than stock. To be fair, its quite a sturdy rear subframe anyway, and with the extra stiffness from the mev frame id imagine its pretty good already. I'm being a typical boy racer and going for speed and suspension upgrades first!!

the 90-91.5 not having them makes sense, sarah's had 2 1.6 MX5's and both had the under brace but they were both a 92 and 93 and even with the standard exhaust unless its lined up properly it can hit the bar and annoy the hell out of you excuse the rust i havent stripped it all out yet and started cleaning

Looking good mate wont be long and it will be on the road , when tightening the ppf frame to the gearbox end use a transmission jack and jack the gear box up as far as it will go as the ppf is slotted or it may cause transmission chatter on deceleration.

not been updating for a while as been doing lost of the boring jobs that dont really show. Stripped the intet manifold, cleaned it and the injectors and rail. insulated the entire loom, and wired in all the lights front and back got the fuel lines and filter attached and pressurised. also fired up the engine for the first time (without the exhaust which royally p****d the neighbours off!) its now on, bit tight in the tunnel, but will be swapped out for the 4-2-1 sports manifold and decat pipe. and requires a bit of shaping at the back. air filters in along with some nicely wrapped hoses. obviously getting rid of the whitezip ties! also made a mock up for the center console as i fancied a fighter pilot style set of switches and a push button start (im such a kid!!) pretty sure these switches wont pass the IVA though so will be going in after its passed! unless anyone knows if they would actually pass??

All switches, control knobs etc which are mounted on the instrument panel which are within the "specified zone", contactable by a 165mm diameter. Sphere and protrude from the instrument panel by more than 9.5mm must be likely to retract or detach with no sharp edges when subject to an impact of 40kgf (see Note 5)

However there is an exclusion zone. Please see the IVA manual. It basically extends to 127mm around the top and sides of the steering wheel but not the bottom.

Stuart, i have a set of sidelights to match the indicators and brakes, ive also got a set of led running lights. I was under the impression you still needed traditional sidelights even if you have led running lights. If the led lights can be used instead of sidelights then i can remove the sidelights as these do look good.
