Brilliant work Alex, nice details too. Far better than the MEV demo car! Regards Stiggy (although I did it on the cheap)

not cost me too much Stiggy, just lots of time de rusting and painting... Cam Cover baking in the oven.... (i really cant afford my own paint oven...) reliably informed by a professional painter that 80degrees fan assisted with the door slightly open for 30-40mins is spot on is A-OK. the finished article...

cheers chaps,
H5ngs, what paint did you use? looks awesome, just having trouble with the very high temp paint as its proving harder to bake than thought!! was planning on black lettering. is it easiest to paint by hand with an artist brush or template somehow and spray? There is a roll of copper brake pipe with the kit thats enough length to do the front to back run and around the engine bay. I purchased another roll as ive completely replaced the whole system and the clutch line, you'll also need a brake flaring kit. P clips are included but only a handfull. theyre on ebay for £3 for 100, best to have spares for the engine bay and clutch line. ebays best for all of this. 3/16th copper pipe is about £10 for 25feet and a flaring kit is £7. Fuel lines not included as they are solid pipes under the mx5 which can be used, but again easier to replace as theyre stiff. youll need a fair bit as theres a feed and a return pipe. I bought 8m for about £20 on ebay again. P clips again fine. rubber hoses throughout mean the only joins are to the tank itself and to the engine, so less chance of leaks. You ordered a kit yet? Alex

I used halford high temp engine paint for the cam cover and lettering, easiest to do the main colour then let fully dry, then use a small brush to drop the colour in the lettering, takes a while but looks great once done. after that was dry i laqured it. Its been on my car months now with no signs of lifting or bubbling due to heat. All my has been done to a normal mx5, it was a restoration project in itself as my second car, i've been a ford tech for around 7 years now so did most the work myself, baring respray see thread here: www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=170558&highlight=mazdaPlanning on using this as my exocet chassis so doing the work to this first so once i had funds to order the kit i will be able to remove my body and fit the new shell. ~Unfortunaly im also in the process of getting a first house so moneys more focused at the moment on deposits. (anyway life story over) Ill look forward to more updates over the weekend mate.

Thanks Nigel. Im being as carefull as i can...just tricky getting into some spaces!! H5ngs, the mx5 looks fantastic, lots of hours into that. would be a shame to strip it to an Exocet, however, you'd make a package on selling spares. I made over 600 in parts on a pretty banged up 91 plate!

Break in the weathers meant the fuel tanks on its spacers and the pump and sender are in, along with filler tube. just used chromed 15mm wide plumbing copper with washers. planning on shortening the overflow pipe once the GRP goes on and i know what lengths needed Also got the seats and belts in and fixed. along with removing a lot of the un-needed clips from the wiring loom, ie aircon, interior lights, window motors central locking etc etc... the rest of the wirings been neatened up, but as theres so much of it, and its way too long you really cant make it neat!!

Looking good some good progress, as for the wiring i take it the only way to make it neater would be to shorten parts of it so excess length wiring could be taken out, but thats going to be long time consuming work cutting, shortening, soldering and heat shrinking it all back again. You planning on painting the tank up black? Is there no way of making a alloy pannel to fit as a dash panel to attach the wiring to to help hide and mount it out of the way of the engine compartment? Little difficult to explain if you get me.
