I have today, taken delivery of the last Sonic 7 chassis produced by RTR, along with wishbones, uprights and m-hoop.
To say I am relieved and excited is an understatement!
Can't wait to start the build up.

No, They had the rest, but not the panels. Mr Mills has kindly confirmed that I can use the moods to get some made when I am ready for them. I wasn't planning on getting to this stage for another few months so I'm a long way off needing the panels.

Sonic owners - can anyone confirm if the chassis is the lowest point bar the floor and bolts? I'm thinking about a full floor and noticed the gearbox dog bone mount (is that the right name for it) is level with the chassis rails. Would a floor in the engine bay clear or would it need additional clearance in places?
Thanks
James

Steering rack Ford Sierra, quick rack kit available from Rally Design as are; Top ball joints (drag links form a Transit van). Bottom ball joints, Austin Maxi. Shocks are 13" bolt centre to bolt centre when fully open, holes are 12mmx30 Springs are 8"x 1.9" 300 lbs rear 200 front or similar to individual pref. Or higher but not lower rates i.e 350 and 225. Track rod ends are RS2000 and you will need their rack extenders too. Lots of firms sell wishbone bushes. You will need to advise them of the length of crush tube and the diameter of the bone hole and that you are using 12mm bolts.

Forgot to mention the 1 1/4 alloy pipes are 1666 mm long with a 1.5mm wall thickness and a 20 deg bend 400mm from the ends. I have a piece here if you need it.

Can you tell what it is yet? Your five year old's drawing of Dad after he went to the beach on the one sunny day in England?

And the prize goes to - well not Kiwi that's for sure! Its actually my template for a new Sonic Tank Design. Slightly larger than 5 Gallons at 6-7 dependant on on a couple of decisions still to be made and my memory for the maths that I did a couple of days ago. The desire was for a slightly bigger tank, to increase the range. Here is a visualisation: The bulge at the bottom is 35mm deep, allowing it to sit nicely and hopefully reduce fuel surge issues without the 2 way flow restraint of baffles. As I have to get this built anyway I am planning on making an Aluminium replacement for the plastic restrainer and having that welded in place. Mounting wise it would go in the front end: The green blocks being placeholders for the rack mounts and the diagonal tubes actually being round not square. I didn't see the need to model those accurately as my concern was the remaining space I had to play with. The "Standard" tank would fit nicely as so With the Yellow straps being 2mm x 40 mm steel, bolted horizontally through the chassis bar with bolts & a crush tube running front to back. The purple straps (same size) could be wrapped round the front of the front rail, back of the back rail and bolted with the yellow ones or bolted through the to the yellow straps in the gap between the tank and rail (both front & back). I'm planning on having a layer of rubber between the tank and straps. I'll add an image later but the bottom bulge on the new tank design positively locates the tank between the straps & the base remains higher than the bottom of the chassis rails. Also the extra width doesn't clash with the steering column position. Any thought, tips and advice please?

Bad news, broke my new 6mm bit. Good news it was at the point of breaking through on the last grease nipple point. No plans to need it again any time soon.
Edit, 5mm bit for m6 nipples

I made a major mistake up that will set my build back weeks...
...I mentioned to my wife that it was now just about warm enough to start painting.
I meant parts but now have the hall, wc, stairs, landing and our bedroom to do before I get any serious garage time!
