Is it just because I can't see them, or does the frame not have the mounting brackets for the Steering Rack? I hope its just not me being able to pickup where the rack mounts?
Cheers

Hi Nick,
The steering racks vary slightly from maker to maker so we do not drill the holes in the chassis for them.
it's a simple case of getting your tape measure out and making sure that your steering rack is central before marking the holes and drilling them.

Paul Holmes RTR Hi Paul, Won't it need special brackets to hold it in place? If your kit includes a 2.4 quick rack, why can't these brackets be fitted at MEV prior to the chassis being delievered? Do you have a comprehensive build manual for the TR1KE? Also, is it possible for me to come and see you again this Saturday to just ask the last few questions I have, and take some more measurements from the TR1KE? Cheers Nick

Was down at RTR today to pick up some great looking seats and had a quick look at there two tr1kes that were been built. Paul was a great help,
Latemarch, the break setup is fairly simple have bolted them to see how it fits together but will put some more pics up. Question is how you do the handbrake there are a couple of options, think im going to use a small seperate brake caliper on the rear.
Steering rack does not look too difficult, i have the quick steering rack to fit so will put put up photos as and when.

Thanks for the pictures!
I'm assuming that the two "tabs" that stick up were where the Ford brakes attached.
I'm excited as my Tr1ke should have shipped today.

They were, but you actually use the tabs to attach the metal struts for the wings, very clever stuff, great desighn. How long should shipping take???have you dismantled your donnor bike

Don't know on the shipping...."fast" freighter or Chinese Junk?
Already have the donor stripped and parted. Wheels mounted and balanced. I'll probably go ahead and order the brake parts this week. Everything waits for the frame.

How much can I get built up without needing the donor would you say? I hope to place my order mid february all being well, but won't have a donor bike till maybe March or even April, I have looked at maybe an R6 as they are a bit cheaper and not a great deal of difference in power, 120BHP R6 or 150 R1.
Really want an R1, but they are not cheap.
Do I really need the Donor from day one would you say?
Cheers

R1 are exspensive but i got mine for £1670 including picking it up, the parts i sold have got me just shy of £1400, i still have some bits to sell and also got a couple of exhausts, carbon fibre wing mirrors, gear indicator etc. Bike i got has been dropped so could have got more if the plastics were not cracked? I have been half tempted to get another bike just to brake to sell the parts.
You dont need the bike immediatly you could get a fair bit done without the bike, but if you get one and sell on the bits before it does help and save time/space. If the right bike comes up you could nearly recoup your costs i think.

Fantastic, I think between your reply and Paul at RTR I have made my mind up to get the R1, I don't think I will have it built for Newark, but who cares, I will be at Newark with my Teardrop for the weekend, so will hopefully pitch it near the MEV members area and hopefully have a laugh
Cool

Managed to get the engine in, health and saftey would have had a field day, nearly dropped the whole thing from my front stand (dining room chair) bolted the engine through the wrong hole which took a bit of time to work out had to try and lift the whole engine and got a bit stuck! wife had to rescue me. Put the rear wheel back on with a better rear shock, ebay bargain.

well progress has been slow but having to do boring jobs like buy the right size bolts also my other car obsesion VW's has taken many ebay hours. Must have bought and sent back every size and shape brake parts there are! should have gone for copper and not use ebay. started to build up the brakes, sure its wrong. also mounted the radiator on the front just attached at the bottom by my new rivnut gun. will attach the top with a straight bar when the pipes are in. ford focus mark one steering wheel and boss, looks better than the photo. Gear shifter adapted to just go forwards and backwards, plus gear changer cable nose cone hole cut, (that stuff is evil) took all afternoon to do, there must be an easy way but i didnt find it. Mesh to go behind it has been painted black next jobs fitting the twin tanks (note should have drilled the holes for this while riviting the chasis unless you are fortunate enougth to have a ramp) going to do two rivnuts and one bolt all the way through. Need advice on Fitting the seats, how , if i buy adjusters will it be easier to fit! Waiting on a couple of parts from RTR then will do a full mock up of what its going to look like, and get it out in the sun !
