Hello everyone, I'm Carl from Doncaster, I've ordered my rocket from RTR and have gone for the Race spec chassis. It's a bit different and I like the look of it. I've also opted for the Honda Type R engine after reading Deano's build thread so I'm currently looking for a donor. I think I've done it the wrong way around but I'll get there. Anyway I'll upload some photos etc when my donor and kit arrives.
Cheers
Carl

Hi bazandgav I'll be reading your build with interest as you'll be a few months ahead of me. I'm not sure which engine until I find my donor Deano, hopefully I'm going for an accord 2.2 type R v-tech. I'm checking eBay etc for a suitable donor. Thanks for the invite too ill definitely take you up on that next time I visit RTR to drop off the engine as they are having to do a custom engine fit.

Ok got my focus donor, £200 off eBay. It seems crazy to break up 2 healthy cars to build my kit car. Still looking for the accord or civic.

Deano what difficulties and extra expense did you run into with using the type r engine compared to the focus engine please?

I had already had the donor honda for 5 years got all the focus bits I needed for £170 ,drive shafts where £150 each made to measure I never priced up gear change cables because I went down the paddle shift route Wiring I used & extended the original honda wiring harness stock ecu (not happy with the stock 212-220hp so after iva piggyback ecu race inlet manifolld & a shot of NOS 300hp ) other expenses was good quality RS fuel pump the advantage of using the h22a7 engine out the accord comes with LSD where an early k20 dosent

How will I know which accord has the h22a7 engine? Do they start on a specific year? All of the accords that I'm finding seem to be high mileage although I intend to have the engine and gearbox recon'd so I can register my rocket as a new vehicle.

Carl, Check the DVLA website but IMHO only one major component can be refurbished, the others need to be new for a new reg. You might be OK if you can get them re-manufactured as new but I believe the invoice would need to state new & that would have to be the gearbox as the DVLA will have the engine number on record from the donor.

I have bought a Honda Accord Type R with the H22A7 engine and LSD Gearbox. It's done 109k miles and the engine is strong so I'm in the process of removing it so it can go over to Paul at RTR for the custom engine fit. Then we can get my chassis off to the powder coaters. I'm having the engine and gearbox reconditioned to make sure everything is tip top and so I can go for a new registration, I can't wait to get the kit now. Does anyone want to buy any Accord Type R Parts
