Have you checked that a recon engine and recon gearbox will pass the DVLA requirements for a new reg.
There are 6 main components they check and I'm sure 5 of them have to be new with one being reconditioned.
Always good to check before you throw money at something that won't meet the requirements.

Engine would have to be Re manufactured to new condition. Not reconditioned. As it reads on receipt. Both Engine and Gearbox will be completely rebuilt with new parts so will be new condition. Maybe upgraded cams too

The engine number will be old and on their records, so make sure everything else is new.

Thanks for the tips guys I'll make sure the receipt states that both engine and gearbox are "New"!
Paul, Im in a village just outside Barnby Dun, just off M18 junction 4.
Im in the process of taking the engine etc out of the accord. It's a long process as I've got the focus to strip as well.

If you fancy a brew over scratching heads just let me know mate. It's always good to meet another builder.

Paul I've been reading your build, it looks like a fantastic build I'd love to see it in the flesh. I'll definitely pop round when I have time, I'm also gonna see deano as he has done the type r route. You guys are a very friendly bunch :-). I'll be doing track days when mine is built so it'd be great to see a few of you guys there too.

I managed to remove the engine and gearbox from my Honda Accord Type R. It was a nightmare, god knows how they fit that engine in the factory, it was so tight.

The engine and gearbox will be going to RTR sometime this week hopefully for a custom fit and custom driveshafts. Then off to powder coating. I rekon I'm probably a month or so from getting my kit now.. very excited now !

Been there done that lol ;-) :-) I forgot what it's like to have hands cut to bits and oil under my nails as my job involves computers now. I'm really looking forward to the build now I've got the engine & box out. Deano there seems to be lot's of stuff on the engine that I'm hoping I don't need. Pipes and wires etc. do you have a picture of your engine so I can see what's needed and what's not. I was very careful not to cut any wires, so I managed to get the wiring loom to the ECU out without damaging it. It'll be fun wiring all that back in
