Dropped my Type R Engine and Gearbox off at RTR today. I'm having the chassis with no powder coating at this stage as I need to sort out to gear selector because the Type R gear selector is much bigger than the focus selector. I'm considering having it near the steering wheel, like the Civic Type R setup. I am also looking into Brembo brakes as I intend to do track days as well as the odd on the road trip. I've used Brembo brakes before on a BMW 330 ci for track days and they were amazing with no brake fade at all. Does anyone have any experience of using Brembo brake calipers/disks etc on the rocket? or will the high spec calipers be ok with Brembo disks and pads? I'd like to give a big thanks to Deano for his time and answering all of my questions today. He's a very generous guy too, offering to lend me parts for the IVA (if and when I get to that stage). His Rocket looks amazing too Looks like I'll be picking my kit up late next week... exciting times Oh can anyone recommend a place to buy the carbon fibre vinyl for the floor and other bits? the largest in width that I'm finding on ebay is 600mm? or is that stuff ok with a join under the centre console tunnel thingy? Thanks Carl

So I'm trying to get as much planned as possible before I pick up my kit this Friday. I am trying to think how to deal with the gear selector, as I've gone for the Honda Accord Type R engine and gearbox everything will be backwards if I mount it in the way it was mounted in the donor car, meaning first gear and all odd gears will be back while even gears will be forwards. Does anyone know how to get around this? I am having the chassis without powder coat until this is sorted so I can make changes/welding to the chassis.

I've spoken to a gearbox specialist today and he suggests using a gear selector from a mid engined car such as an MR2. (as you also suggested steve) How is this dealt with using the focus engine/box and gear selector?
Steve what are my options of employing the paddle shift system?

Panic over, after speaking with deano the gear selector will work just fine, it's just me getting all confused. Thanks for the input though.
Steve I do like the idea of paddle shift maybe at a later date.

I picked up my Kit from RTR today after they had dry fitted my Honda engine & gearbox to mock up the engine mounts. I also took the Hi Spec brakes front and rear with race brake pads but due to me ordering them short notice RTR will be sending them on to me. I am going to mock up the gear selector (which is the honda one) and maybe move a couple of bits before I send it all for powder coating. As you can see from the pictures I think I'm the only one to have the rocket with race chassis spec (with extra braces down the sides). I felt a bit vulnerable on the test drive in the rocket so decided the extra protection would make me feel a bit better as I'll be doing lot's of track days too. Now I have it all at home I need to decide which job to do first. I also need to choose and buy the following: Steering Wheel Seats Exhaust Wheels Lights Radiator and a few other bits.. Time to get busy how to upload pictures online

Seats I'm looking into seats, after trying the GRP ones at RTR today I need the 'fat' fitting which is about 400mm round the arse area. Ideally I wanted some with padding and some that feel a little more sturdy that the GRP seats, I like the look of these OMP seats here Ebay linky
I really want to be able to try some before I buy, can anyone recommend anywhere that this is possible, or is it possible to buy some and return them (in unused condition obviously) if I don't fit them. After having a sit in a rocket at RTR today I was very cramped in there, I'm not huge at 6 foot 1 but found the steering wheel was almost on my legs (it was fully adjusted upwards too) so I would have really struggle to steer. Therefore I want to lower my seat as absolutely low as possible so I need seats which will allow me to almost sit of the floor. Does anyone have any they are selling? Steering Wheel I want a small steering wheel so am looking at Sparco or OMP 260mm - 280mm. Can anyone recommend where to buy this from? Obviously I need it to fit the focus column so what else would I need? I'd like quick release (for security) so I can leave my rocket in the car park at work on the odd occasion. Wheels Can anyone advise the largest size I should have for wheels? and where to buy these from please? I really like the Honda Accord Type R style wheels which I already have but they don't fit as they are 5 stud Thanks
