Original sprockets and chain of aa 2001 R are used on my tr1ke with no issues.

I had to buy an extra section of chain and join it in as they don't make a chain long enough. The later the R1 donor the longer the swinging arm and also the chain

I believe 116 links is std for your r1, it's a different model to Pauls though may be the same length chain. If you add to the chain you already have, you must get exactly the same make and type of chain. Personally I would get a new one to be sure. The easiest way to determine the length you need is to fit the old chain onto the tR1ke with one end resting on the top side of the rear sprocket and the other end on the bottom side of the sprocket. Then count the remaining teeth the that the chain doesn't cover, add that amount to the links of your chain and that is the length you will need.

Cheers guys for the advice,
Bought another identical chain from the same supplier. Needed 3 links only but it's done now. Glad I invested in a motorcycle chain tool also otherwise it looked like it would be a bit of a game. Ordered a Y piece, Kliktronic system and brake hoses from RTR. Order arrived very quickly and Harry kept me informed of progress. Being new to this, it took the worry out of the suitability of stuff, so that was great.
Wondering what to do about the silencers now. There appears to be plenty of 51mm slip-ons about but I'm sure there's silencers and silencers. Found these on Ebay but don't know how good they are or more importantly, get the TR1ke through the test.

They will be close if not over 99db at half rpm for the msva, ok after the test but I would rather test it with bs stamped silencers. Have you not got the oe r1 cans to use for the test.

Morning Slugshot,
I still have the cans that were on the bike (not sure if they are original) but the twin pipe/under seat design means there's almost a 90 degree bend on the pipe right after the can. The pipe is the wrong diameter also so don't think it can be cut with enough straight on it and then I'd need to fiddle with some joiners. Two more parts for the Ebay pile me thinks.
Thanks for confirming what to look out for, for the test. New shiny ones now ordered and on the way.
On holiday this week, so hopefully I'll get the engine running by the weekend.

After draining the coolant system 5 times in an effort to plug a dripping silicon hose, I eventually got the chance to turn the engine over. The news is good... it's alive.
Most things are in place - electrics all done (things come on and go off when you press buttons etc), just need to make some brackets for things to be attached permanently. Exhaust support, handbrake mount, fuel pot and bodywork.
Exhaust cans in place. You may note no rear shock (should have used a stronger box, LOL). Top left of picture - old spring. Ordered an uprated one.
Kilktronic solenoid in position and gear arm made. And yes... I am nearly out of gold paint.
Flappy paddles in place and yes... more gold. People have mentioned on this forum that the steering wheel by default is too far away and mine was the same until the flappy unit added 55mm and it seems comfortable now.

(My steering wheel is 17cm closer than standard to the driver.....)

I like the silencers they look good angled up at the rear, for me it was the seat mounts on the chassis that was too far back, not the steering wheel too far forward.

I would imagine the sitting and steering wheel position and probably unique to every build. We're all different after all and isn't that what makes this a great planet to be on? Philosophy over with for one day, it's time to go and hit something with a hammer in the garage!
For me, the seat needs to be right back and the steering wheel closer but that's just what feels comfortable.
So, I may have fell into a trap of changing my mind about stuff at this late stage but it occurred to me as I prepared to drill holes in the frame to mount the fuel pot - 'that looks a bit big... why am I carrying Dusty bin with me everywhere I go?' So the Dusty/semi reserve tank design are out and bits have arrived to make something far more conservative.
Got a 625lbs uprated rear spring which is in and finished exhaust mounts. A better hugger came with the kit but I'll worry about that after the test. Seats in, fluid in the brake system and all working correctly.
I need to do something with the fuel level sender. I'm tempted to buy one of the 12v sender/gauge combos on Ebay (about £50) but wondering how well a float jobby does when the fuel is swishing about a bit (excuse the overuse of technical terms). What work best in practice? thanks,

Evening TR1kers,
Lots of time in the garage recently. The long sunny days look ideal TR1ke weather which is good incentive to get the build finished.
Got the fuel sender and gauge installed.
Fuel pot 2 has been born and test mounted. Just need to tidy up the base plate and then decide on a suitable colour . The secondary fuel pump is mounted on a plate beside the drivers side fuel tank.
Got the front wings painted and attached. Have fabricated some round tubing to mount the bike controls on. Just need to get this welded to the steering column. All the big jobs are now complete and I know it runs but the tidying up bits and getting it driveable is taking a while.
