My IVA booking experience went like this' At the end of March I sent all the paper work off and ticked the box to say that I wanted to pay by card (so the form says that DVSA will contact you later for payment details). I waited 2 weeks and had not heard anything so I rang them and someone told me that they had received the application on 30th March and it had been accepted but it will not be processed for another 2 weeks as there was a back log and they were still processing applications from the first 2 weeks of March. So I waited just over 2 weeks till the beginning of May and I had still not been contacted for payment so I rang them and the lady on the phone was pretty helpful to be fair, she couldn't understand why I had not been contacted for payment so went off to find out what was going on. She came back with the info that it had been passed to the technical department who should have contacted me for the payment, she didn't know why they had not been in touch so she took my payment and pushed it through for me. A week or so later (17th May) the test station (Beverley) sent me an E-mail asking me to ring them to organise the date, I rang and the first date they had for me was 1st July. I'm guessing the availability of dates depends on the test station and maybe Beverley is a busy station so the time I have to wait might not be the case for other stations. So to answer your question, I'm going to Beverley which is in East Yorkshire and once I had paid they contacted me, . I think I might have been unlucky in that my application landed in the middle of a very busy period and then for some reason it got stuck waiting for payment. If you think the process has stalled for some reason it's worth giving them a ring and asking for an update on the status of the application, the 2 times I rang I found that the people were very helpful if you don't get shirty with them, just be friendly and ask nicely.

Well the big day was yesterday and it was a fail but not too badly so overall I am very pleased , the tester down at Beverley was really sound, a nice chilled chap and he thought that the car was very good, I think he wanted to pass it off on the day but we didn't have the bits with us to sort out all the issues and it would have probably taken too long. fail points were; 1. No locknuts on the connection rods from the brake master cylinders to the balance bar clevis's 2. Brake balance out, too much to the rears 3. Exhausts blowing onto the back tyres I simply forgot to fit the locknuts to the master cylinder connection rods, I built the pedal box up ages ago for measuring up and trial fitting and then just forgot to go back and put them on. The tester would have let me fit them while I was there but although I had taken all sorts of bits, trim and spares with me, guess what I didn't have with me.....yep, the locknuts I needed, Doh! Brake balance; I'd done the 'drive at about 20mph and slam on to see if the fronts lock before the rears' to check the brakes and then drilled and pinned the balance bar. I knew it was a gamble doing that but did it anyway. The tester was willing to let me knock the pins out and he would have retested it and let me adjust it to get it through the test and then re-drilled and pin it, but there was a chance that if the new hole was close to the old one then it might have been hard to drill and to be honest I don't want a bar in there with more then the required holes in it weakening it! The exhaust does blow across the back tyres a bit (I knew it did but thought it might be ok as it doesn't blow directly on to it) and he thought that if I was stuck in traffic with it like that it could cause a hot spot on the tyre and cause a blow out which is fair enough. I need to fashion a bit of plate as a deflector or maybe fit one of those chrome end pipes with a bend or angle on it to direct the exhaust gases away. Although it failed I was still happy that the points to address are easy to do and I should be able to get them done over the weekend and get the car back there next week. As a said before the tester was happy for me to address some of the things there and then but I would have had to work in the car park in the midday sun (of yesterday of all days!) and since I could address then all and had to go back anyway I thought it best to go home and take more time and care getting the bit sorted. I trailered the car there and drove it back, which was an hour and 45 mins of a mix of town, dual carriage way, country roads and motorway driving and the car was great, drove really nice, straight and true with no sign of unsteadiness or unstableness at motorway speeds and the temperature gauge sat at 93-94 degrees C with the fan coming in and out, so that was a good first road test too. All in all I though it was a good day, especially the drive home

my iva is coming up soon so great to read your feedback, will help to ensure more jobs are ticked off of my list! Well done but sorry too, I assume it's a quick process having a retest then? I'll fly thru next time at least and be on the road in this lovely weather! Cheers, Wayne.

Cheers guys, yeah should have everything sorted this weekend and see if I can get it back in next week for the re-test and oh yeah it was great to drive it at last! rocketfroggy, when you are doing your final prep for IVA, post a load of pics for us all to have a look at and we might be able to spot something, I think that you get so familiar with your own car seeing it all the time that it's easier to miss stuff, like the missing locknuts on the master cylinder connection bars must have been in my vision when I was doing stuff to the balance bar but it just never registered...with familiarity comes complacency....or something like that.

Had the IVA re-test today and it passed proper happy chappy!
Need to get the paper work off for reg now, most of it is filled in so a good check through tomorrow and it will be in the post.
I drove there and back, so a 135ish mile round trip and it was great. The sun even came out and I took a better route home with more twisty B roads which really put a smile on my face!
Also, I got stopped by the police on A63 and had to explain the lack of a reg plate to the chap who, by his own admission didn't have a clue about the situation. So he got someone else (who he said had just built a grass tracker) on the radio who confirmed everything I had just said and said I should have all the paper work that I had just given him so there was no problem. He showed a bit of interest in the Rocket and even took a photo for the other guy off the radio. He was almost apologetic as he sent me on my way, but it was no bother to me, nothing was going to stop me smiling
