Oh right cheers for that, I'll have a check tonight. I'm hoping it's not too bad!

Just a quick post, here are some close up pics of the joints. Rear lower front joint. now adjustable Rear lower rear joint. obvz there is no bolt in situ! not got around to ordering one yet. Underneath the rear lower joint (not the best pic) Front upper joint Front lower joint Front joints Also got these delivered a while ago now, drilled and grooved discs, with black coating and EBC Green Stuff pads all from the freak. Something is waiting for me at the sorting office so I'm hoping it's a rear upright! Shaun

Had a look at the front wingstays issue with regards coming into contact with the upper joint and it appears I've got the same problem. It's difficult to say at the moment as everything is only loose and not fully together but would some form of spacers on the three dust cover bolts work just to keep it clear of the upper joint?
Mine is the new style wingstays which are one unit bolted on the old dust cover by the way.

Spent this morning stripping and blasting the callipers and got them all painted up this afternoon. Got a couple of them put together and put in place. Managed to sort a few niggles I had with the front rose joints. Hoping to attach the brake line running front to back tomorrow, and some fuel line if I get hold of them in time.

Sorted a few things this morning, attached the brake pipe to the chassis, also took apart the passenger seat recliner ready to made a fixed bracket for it. Just couldn't get the seat clear for the side panel to fit so going down this route. The driver seat seemed to fit fine! Stance!
Does anyone have any pics of brackets they have made to replace the recliner mechanism? Just ordered some fuel pipe and clips from CBS.
Also got a replacement front rose joint bolt on route which should be long enough to finish off the suspension.

Sorted a few things this morning..... Does anyone have any pics of brackets they have made to replace the recliner mechanism? Hey Shaun. Two things. First, slow down mate your putting the rest of us to shame. Fast build time! Second thing, look at Smithers "more seat/seat belt wows" posting. He has just what your looking for for your bracket. And IVA compliant.

My solution, like smithers, was to discard the tilt mechanism completely after deciding on a “neutral” comfortable driving position (and the passenger gets what I like!). I manufactured a couple of mild steel plates, to the same shape as the tilt mechanism brackets, painted and with knock-on trim fitted. Fitted to the seat, they allow full backwards and forwards adjustment. I’ve used the original MX5 10mm bolts, capped to protect the seat belt. I used 5mm steel plate and am prepared to argue that this is substantially more robust than the original plate which held the tilt mechanism and which is less than 2mm thick. Cutting this amount of 5mm plate with a jigsaw is tedious but with the right blades and loads of lubrication, both plates took about 2 hours to manufacture. Cheers guys! I am going to be keeping the recliner on the driver seat, as these don't seem to foul anything. The passenger will just have to make do!
The reason for the sudden burst in jobs being done is the mrs has been hard at work on college stuff so has been a perfect opportunity to spend plenty of time in the garage!
Ordered some materials for the seat brackets and anything else it'll get used for!
Is there a maximum distance the clips can be apart for fuel hoses? I assume there is but couldn't find anything in the IVA manual. Cheers

Hi in my old version of the CBS catalogue it states
"A brake pipe must be adequately clipped or otherwise supported"
CBS note : we recommend fixing every 200mm (8")
I'm yet to read through, and understand the IVA manual (up to the exhaust section at the moment), but I reckon the above is a good guide. I have read that there is a need to to fix at the point of changing from a solid line to a flexible Mine is all in flexible so I can't say for sure. I'm sure others will comment.
Sorry can't be more defiant.

I've used 200mm as it seems to be acceptable for IVA but have found nothing in the IVA manual. jgilbert gives good advice; there have been a few failures reported for "floating joints".

Yeah 200 seems adequate! Just waiting for various things to arrive in the post now! I'm at a bit of a stall until then!
I still can decide what springs/dampers to go for!? Will be making this decision before Xmas and hopefully the mrs is good to me!

I guess the pipe material plays a part i.e copper pipe will have more of a 'structural' element to it than rubber. Re the Shocks. My personnel view, Gaz gave me very helpful advice, they sponsor the MX5/Exocet race series, they are a British firm (sorry to sound a bit xenophobic). But I'd rather talk to a bloke in Essex that understands UK driving conditions if I need future advice. I also looked at the MX5 coil overs, they look to be very good value, but for me, I'm quite proud that we have the option to buy a great British product. Sorry end of rant!

Every man is entitled to a rant every now and then! Had a day off work today so spent it attaching the fuel lines removing the front exhaust and cat (couldn't decide whether I was gonna replace the full lot or not but thought it's easier to remove now anyway!) fabricated the fixed seat back bracket, I ordered 3mm aluminium from CBS but it looked a bit too thin when seeing in the flesh so cut two templates and put them back to back! Just need to paint/cover it (not decided which yet) and get some edge trim. Also fitted the near side side panel (apologies for the terrible photo skills, my phone is normally attached to speakers playing music so it's a quick stretched point and shoot then back to work)! Was waiting for the last few wishbone bolts to come from autolink, parcel arrived yesterday, excited about the idea off maybe having a rolling chassis once again with the few parts in this envelope!!!! No, sadly not, they'd mucked the order up and sent me some plastic interior dash clips! Thank you very much! Anyway still plenty to get on with! Shaun

Ok I feel really stupid asking this but here we go anyway. Went to put my steering rack back on today and the brackets on the rack don't line up with the brackets on the subframe? ? All I have done is replaced the two gaitors and the track rod ends. It looks like the one on the left (when looking forward) is too far in! The right hand one looks fine because the column lines up with the gap in the subframe just right! Feel a bit daft asking this but I must be making a really obvious mistake! Any help please! Shaun
