If you look at any of the build threads we have had to cut and weld to connect the rack pinion clamp to the column uj. It would better I think if this part was pre made and came with the kit as its a part that needs welding and not just drilling and bolting. I didn't weld mine, placed the steering column bracket centre to thr seats. Had to shorten the shaft approx 0.5" Have a browse in my thread. good progress!

Thanks for confirming I'm not being a plonker on the seat position Kevin, I fart arsed around for ages trying to get a position Im happy with. I agree about the column joint maybe being part of the kit too but I'm happy to make something up. And thanks for the compliments the light units did take a bit of time but hopefully will be well worth it:-)

I bought a purpose made shaft from CBS and cut it and welded it, it has splines on either end, so once you know the distance, you can make a nice job of it. Think it cost £30

It seems much harder to use now Looking at your build so far and the lovely crafted one off fittings I can't imagine you will buy a cheap steering UJ from CBS as nick and myself have although it won't be seen so does it really matter. I agree regarding the new look forum, I had no complaints with the old look.

To be honest, the steering column link was a nice bit of kit, and mine looks very good now it's been Tig welded. It does the job it's meant to do, no point in recreating something that's lighter that might fail, when you have a purpose made item off the shelf. The build is hard enough without having to rethink everything.

I'm not that bad Kevin, but I do like to do things as nice as I know how:-) the CBS stuff looks just die and will make life a bit easier, but don't worry there are plenty of other areas where I can go a bit mad:-)

I may have missed Stoneleigh this weekend but I have bought the steering joint with bar and spline from CBS and it will do the job just spot on, also I've got the front end built up this weekend and cycle wings trimmed and ready for me to bond them to the brackets at work this week. The drivers seat is all fitted now and I think it's as low as I can get it, and after the MSVA I will most certainly be changing the wheel for a smaller one and adding about 6" to the length of the column I've had a couple of bits painted and fitted the fuel pump and I plan to put a panel over the top to go from air box down to the frame. So I'm getting there slowly hopefully get the MSVA sorted in August.

They weigh in at 6.5kg so about as light as I could get and still be road legal, they do them in magnesium too but that's just being silly :-)
