Well I have done it! and bought myself a little MX5. 1.8 mk1. So the fun, long nights, greasy fingernails, empty wallet, swearing, starts here. One of the things that made me decide to have a go at an Exocet build was this forum. I First build a kit car 30years ago (a Nova for anyone old enough to remember). At the time, it was just a matter of working alone in a council garage with a calor gas camping lamp. No WWW to google and no forums. Just the amount of knowledge I've got from everybody so far has inspired me to go for it. So to everyone on this forum thanks and I expect to be coming back with lots of dumb questions!!!
Thanks for the adventure!

If you are able to, enjoy the mx-5 a little before setting the spanners loose on it then you will be able to compare and contrast when you do finally get the Exocet up and running!

That was one of the main reasons i chose the exocet was this forum and so many very helpful people that take the time and answer questions no matter how daft. I design aircraft parts for a living so deffo no mechanic.

Yeah by all means ask as many questions as you need to, always here to help. Love to see loads of pictures of you build as you go as well with your ideas for the car.

Have fun. Only one tip from me - lay out the COMPLETE loom and get everything working before you start snipping bits off...

All, thanks for the welcome. Can't wait, although the comment about driving the MX5 a bit first before stripping is an interesting thought.
By way of an intro Luke is 14years old and I'm a bit older. So it's going to be a father and son project. We seriously have NO idea of what we are letting our selfs into. But really looking forward to it.
The build threads we have reviewed are a great resource and inspire so much confidence. We will post lots of photos of the build, and ask lots of stupid questions. Bare with us! And hopefully we will have a great time and build a machine we can be proud of!

We now have something to write about. Today saw the arrival of our donor vehicle (95, 1.8 flavour). Fun to drive with the top down in a little bit of sun light. When we went to pick the car up, the previous owner said that he had turned down someone else who wanted to turn it into a drift car as he didn't want to see it chopped about. Luke and I exchanged slightly embarrassed glances and I muttered something about Restoration or..... was it, Termination was our plan! Anyway, we are on our way. The 'Green Goblin' as she has been christened seems to drive reasonable well even if she is in need of a change of clothes! First job, down to the local garage for the Polish guys to jet wash the engine bay and underside ready for the strip down. Photo of our unsuspecting donor

Hi looking for advice please. I plan to replace all the suspension bushes during my build. Looking on eBay there appears to be two types offered. Flow flex split bushes. A full set for £104 or, An unbranded type but one piece design for £79.99
Can anyone advise if either of these products are any good? Both claim the same hardness and superior handling and wear characteristics.
Any advice welcome thanks.

So Sunday proved to be a good day. The tractor we need to sell to fund our Exo build was sold This means we now have a build fund. First purchase a set of new EBC grooved disc brakes, EBC green stuff pads and stainless steel brake hoses. Also managed to make progress removing the loom. Rear loom out interior, loop out and near side engine loom all ready to pull back into the centre of the car. Following the advice about labelling well, I've used red tape for the rear loom, green for the interior and yellow in the engine bay. All marked up with a sharpie pen. I didn't get any feedback regarding the choice of suspension bushes in out last post. So any advice welcome. Finally, I have a bit of a project plan in my head. Hopefully get the body and PPF split by the end of Nov. I will then be aiming to break down the PPF ready for powder coating by Christmas. Optimistic but a plan. Photo of the looms removed.

Hi guys, well done on the build start, i think there's a lot on here about the bushes, some have left the originals in, some have paid for the higher cost bushes, i was undecided at the time but then a set of flow flex cropped up on fleabay, wrongly purchased , got them for £60 and only 8 mile away. Fitted in ok without a vice, just abit of lube and a rubber mallet, just beware that if you burn all the bushes out, like i did... the shock bushes are not available from flow flex.. they cost me nearly the same cost as the rest of the kit. See... you should have used the search before your purchases  I can supply discs, pads hoses, wheel spacers and I'm also running a group buy on the EnergySuspension complete bush replacement kit. I fitted the kit to my MX150R and it went in a breeze. Comes with a tub of grease to get everywhere and transforms the drive.

In fairness I've struggled with the search function (me not the technology). So re the Energy Suspension bushes. Is this a complete kit? Does it include the diff mounting bushes? When are you ordering/ expecting delivery? Happy to lend my buying power to every bodies benefit. Last question would be the price ;D Cheers John
