I'm not envious at all :-). That looks brilliant fun and something that I will be coming to next year I reckon.

I think we all managed plenty of track time for the £40 cost. must have been getting on for a hundred laps through the whole day. Looks like 4000 pounds of fun to me! Love it!

Went out for a run in the tr1ke yesterday and as I was heading back home I thought I felt a few spots of rain.A couple of minutes later I realised it wasnt rain, my radiator had developed a hole in the back of it. I stripped it out to do a repair, then I had a thought. When on the track at Curborough, my temperature went right up in the red a few times, so I am now thinking of putting in a slightly bigger rad. Anyone got any ideas on what might fit?

There is plenty of room to put a car rad in the tR1ke, one with a thicker core to increase the amount of coolant and a big two speed fan as well. Did the fans come on at the right time at curborough, I remember you saying it got upto 128c, the fans should stop it getting that hot.

fans switch on fine at 106 and of again at 103 all works fine on the road, most of the time, but as it did get too hot at curborough, its going on the trailer tomorrow to the radiator shop and we are going to try a few car rads and se what will fit. Might also go for a bigger fan while Im at it. Have you put your name down yet for AMM 5 next year Kev ?

The r1 fan on yours is the bigger curved type with 2 small fans so should be better than mine, is the grill letting enough air through, I can't remember what size holes your plastic mesh has? You did do a lot of laps at curborough mainly flat out in 1st gear, and it was a very warm day so its fair to say there's no wonder the poor thing got a bit hot AMM next year, O yes whatever the date ill be there.

That's strange. Several do report over cooling with open mesh. The only thing I can think of is your radiator contains a lot of sand from the R1 front wheel like mine had. remove this with a needle and rinse many times from both sides until you can see through the radiator.
good luck, Erik

I do drive it hard Erik. as Kevin says , most of Curborough circuit was in first gear. Only got in to second on the last straight. Tr1ke does 94 in first gear and my highest speed at curborough was 99 mph. It may be a bit late for cleaning out fins on the rad as it is corroded and leaking. My theory is if I put a bigger rad in ,and it is overcooling, I can blank some of it off and still have the extra cooling capacity for when I thrash the life out of it on the track.

haha you should get a rad off a truck Paul Your engine can rev to 14000rpm so will generate more heat, was the rad badly corroded, enough to compromise the cooling. I know you're getting a bigger rad but would a standard r1 rad in good condition do the job, the mounts are there for it.

corrosion is an isolator

rad looked fairly good. there was no sign of corrosion except on the very bottom row

That looks perfect for the job and it looks like it holds more coolant as well.
Once you you try it with screens you won't want to take them off no matter how crap they look so be warned.

Hi Paul, hope your well, been putting together the video footage that I took at Curborough this year. Will be uploading to Youtube over night so probably not available until tomorrow but here's the link anyway, hope you enjoy. nigel
