Use a decent engine flush before refilling and starting. Fingers crossed theres no major internal damage.

WOW! that's worst case scenario!
No way you will get the magnet shrapnel out of the gearbox/bearings etc easely. Looks like the complete engine needs to be opened and schrapnel removed by hand. Hope there is no piston damage...Might be wise to reconsider a donorengine after talking to a bike mechanic.
good luck, Erik

Paul,
What year of engine is it? Is it a fuel injected model or Carb?
If its Carb, I can sort you out my old engine from my friend. It was a 1999 4XV engine, it did have some sort of low end issue with performance after 20 mins, but all the bits you need will probably be in working order, and much cheaper than getting new? And you could collect it , but its up in Huddersfield.
Let me know what year your engine is.....Carbs or Injection etc....
Nick

Hiya Paul (madeye) I have just taken a few photos of the handbrake arrangement and added them to my Dropbox account, the handbrake cable (handbrake side) attaches to the fixed end of a pulley then the handbrake cable (calliper side) is passed through the pulley and then locked off, this gives twice the amount of movement on the calliper to what is given on the handbrake, hope this helps.

hi Paul Handbrake lever is the focus one that came with the kit. I cut and adjusted the mounting brackets on the bottom to sit over the seat rail and leaning slightly outwards. It is right next to the seat so is easily reachable. Did originally try a dash mounted jaguar handbrake, but no matter what I tried , just couldn`t get enough pressure to hold the trike. The focus one worked ok for msva, but forget to let it all the way off just once, and the pads are worn out.

Hydraulic is the way to go, even for the MOT, I just spoke to a garage who MOT'd my Boom Lowrider, and they said, as long as the handbrake can be locked and unlocked, and its on its own isolated master cylinder and caliper, there is no problem passing an MOT. My hydraulic handbrake is far superior in holding the TR1KE on a hill to anything cable operated fitted before. both myself and Kevin run Hyrdraulic setups. By all means come and take a look at Stoneleigh or I can send detail pics? My handbrake was a cheapy alloy one from eBay about £35, caliper is a 2009 CBR1000 rear caliper, hose is a pre made stainless 2 meter hose with a 45 degree end on one side and straight on the other, total cost of caliper, pipe, fluid bottle screwed directly into the master cylinder and hand brake was about £100. Well worth the effort to install it, and after my conversation today, I doubt I will ever fit my HiSpec SVA handbrake caliper again.

Not had chance to get pics on yet. Will get them tonight, centre tunnel looks dreadful now, but a new one is currently being fabricated for me, wont be ready for Stoneleigh though.

How is your engine Paul... have you managed to clean it out or are you stripping it right down. Or sourcing a replacement and crucially will it be sorted for this weekends show.

Sump has been removed cleaned out as much as possible and all put back together. everything was stripped ready to take the engine out but a Yamaha mechanic said " what have you got the sump off for ? , just whack a new generator in, change the oil and job done " We did however, spend ages getting it all out and I put some oil I had in the garage in it, (mobil 1 at £50 a gallon)still with the old knackered generator, and have been out driving it this evening. New generator should be here tomorrow so will drive it a bit more as it is, then change oil and filter and generator Thursday or Friday . If all goes well I may make stoneleigh after all. Have also changed the front sidelights and indicators for some tiny LEDs and hid conversion on the headlights. Got the power commander and fitted it, but obviously the remap and dyno tune will have to wait for a week or two until I am confident the engine will be ok.
