Looking great so far! What paint did you use for the gold? Was it engine paint? I just used halfords paint. It was actually the ford electric orange . I sprayed 2 coats of primer, 2 orange and then 2 coats of laquer. It did come out more gold than orange but I quite like it. Did my shocks the same colour. The rocker covers in the mx5 do not get that hot so should be okay

With having some issues fitting the subframes individually i decided to put the rolling chassis back together and try it this way. Its actually a better way of doing it. I got the frame to line up pretty good with just having to cut of the tabs on the mev frame to attach to the rear subframe and both the spacers on the mev frame at the very back were they attach to the front subframe. Forgot to take a pic of it with the frame on but on for a big day at it tomorrow. Its actually a very nice feeling when you have it sitting with the frame on. Its also good to build it with the wheels on and have some props between the lower wishbones and top of subframe

Well i decided today to fit my pedals and steering column. Big thanks goes to NITRAM as I was reading his build thread and he gives some excellent advice. So I fitted the pedals first then fitted the steering rack. Everything went together really well and I did not have to grind or file anything. Also the steering column passed bang on in the middle of the cutout in the bulkhead so well done MEV. Also big thanks to Andy888 who called in to give some good advice for fitting some other parts. There is 2 brackets on the end of the of the steering column and these both picked up perfectly with the existing bolts. Note in the pic I have not put the nut on. Also make sure with the clutch that you get the rod on the pedal assy to fit up the center of the clutch master cylinder.

Hi Chris,
Just wanted to say what a good build thread you have. Looks like your making good progress !
I'm about 3months behind you so your thread is very useful. Happy for you to come across a problem and solve it before I have the same issue ;D
I love the orange body work, it will look very striking.
I have also never seen the Clico pins that you have used. Great idea, so a set will be on my shopping list.
Keep up the great work.

Thanks mate the clico pins are used in the aircraft industry and our very handy and much better than clamps. They were particularly useful for the transmission tunnel as it needs manipulating into position. Ps with the clico pins you need clico pliers to fit them

Made up a few dummy brackets today to support the front brake lines. I was goin to riv nut them to the frame but for now i just clamped them on. I will check the steering lock and make sure they are not strained before I fix them permanently. Anyone see any probs with this Then i set a few bits on
