Cheers for the pictures, that helps me out quite a bit! Did you get the exhaust sorted before or after bolting the subframes to the frame?
Thanks again,

Hi qwerty
I fitted the exhaust after I fitted the chassis to the sub frame I also left the back lower stabilizer bar off until I got it tight

A update i think I have all done I just want to get some clips for the bonnet Installed a fly screen ,a bit tricky but it worked Interior finished I think Hope to build a tool box and fit it in the space between the dash and the bulkhead , Make use of the space Fitted the air filter but I wanted add another bit if heat shield between it and the exhaust Has any body fitted some heat shield mat under the bonnet to stop the engine over heating or scorching it went for a couple of mile spin and nothing fell off so far so good just need to get the wheels tracked should make a difference What fun to drive very responsive on the road and a lot of heads turned Waiting for revenue to get back to in regard to the paperwork to arrange the next step to getting on the road Geoff

Has any body fitted some heat shield mat under the bonnet to stop the engine over heating or scorching it The Exocet looks fantastic Geoff! Stuart used some heat shield mat off a junkyard car on the Exocet demonstrator. I used some DEI Heat Screen (http://www.designengineering.com/category/catalog/design-engineering-inc/heat-sound-barrier/heat-screen) along with their high temp spray adhesive (http://www.designengineering.com/category/catalog/design-engineering-inc/heat-sound-barrier/hi-temp-spray-adhesive)

I put heat shield on the underside of the bonnet - just got a mat from eBay and stuck it on with resin, seems to work okay.

Thanks guys
I will source some heat shield and fix it on
I have a Revenue inspection next Monday the start of the process in getting it on the road I not looking forward to it as they have to value the car and work out the duty, witch is a percentage of the resale value , after all it only a MX5 with 56 thousand on the clock
It might be unjustifiable to put it on the road if they come up with a silly figure after all it might cost up to a thousand euro to road tax it per year for what a couple of sunny weekends a year, as well a 700 euro insurance for 3500 miles a year
There no fun in building a kit car in Ireland
we will have to wait and see ?

Hi delboy
Tough of that from the start but we have a draconian system here called VRT vehicle registration tax, the add this to every vehicle that comes into the country .and it can be anything from 14 to 32 percent on the resale value here. They estimate the resale value of the Exocet to a figure the see fit as it is not on there system and because It has no co2 emissions cert the vrt tax will be 32% .they don't take into account the second hand parts used
Even if I got UK plates on it I have to still go through the same thing .
Will have to wait a see

Had the car in for a VRT inspection on Monday , the guy in the VRT office said he put the details in to the computer to see what comes up, well what do you think nothing .
So he put it in as a open top kit car and all paper work sent to VRO but the funny thing is they all ready have all as i sent it to them direct weeks ago to get a total on it, It has been years since a kit build has been registered here so the are making the rules up as they go
Should have a verdict in a week . The longest week of my life

The Revenue Verdict has come in a whopping total of ...................2484 euro VRT to put plates on the Exocet So I haven't added the total in full yet but it around it around 7K to build a Exocet in Ireland , O that not including tax ,insurance and a NCT ( to keep the garda off your back ) I could not sell any part off the mx5 because there was not a straight part on it I have to make a decision over the next week or two on what the next step is A lot of work down the drain if i don't go on and VRT it

Can you not send it over to the UK to get it IVA'd then ship it back over surely cheaper?
