Well I got some bits through the post today so thought I would have a go at the exhaust. I ordered a universal twin tailpipe from ebay and I already had a box of piping laying round in the garage. I used the standard exhaust pipe to the rear section, a section of the standard mx5 hard fuel filler pipe, a pipe of 90 pipe and the tail pipe. You can see in the pictures the fuel pipe as it has the original bracket on it. I am going to weld a bar on the lower subframe brace and use a exhaust rubber to secure it. And my favorite one I was going to use some black mesh with edging trim to make a rear panel but I'm unsure now as I like the way it looks now. I was worried about the sound and how loud its going to be so I downloaded a few decibel app's on my iphone so I had a few to compare. With this set-up I put the phone 3 feet away with the microphone pointing directly at the exhaust pipes at the same level from the floor. It measured around 85-90 db at idle, and measured 90-95 db at 4000rpm. I also checked for a peak db when backing off and still did not pass 100db. This was also tested in my garage which makes the sound echo a little so will need to retry it outside the garage. Here is a little video clip Ah ok, so further to my posts earlier on I then read back and found this. I'll post on my thread later the trim that I have and you might be able to offer advice. Wish Id kept my off cut of fuel filler now......

Also mate, I have searched ebay hi and low for those rear lights, do you have link for them? I think they improve the stance at the rear. Good work mate

Don't want to upset you on a great job but I'm not sure the manufacture plate will be OK as I think it needs to say the company i.e. MEV Ltd or MILLS EXTREME VEHICLES LTD . A quick phone call to MEV would answer the question.

I was just thinking the same, not sure if it'll matter but worth checking first.

Also if i remember correctly the IVA manual says it has to be on the right hand side when the vehicle is viewe from the rear and must not be easily removable. (not sure how youve fitted it but some testers have insisted the plate is welded on)
Edit - ignore what ive just said, ive had a few beers and it seems like im getting my VINs and Manufacturer plates mixed up.

Thanks for the comments guys, the fact that the company is a ltd or Plc should not make a difference the company name is after all MeV so I think either should be ok, but will see how it goes.

I have the same all in one lights as yourself and I was goin to mount them on the side of my fuel cover but not very aerodynamic doing that but then I have seen yours and they look great however they do look low do you have the 350mm min distance from the ground thats required??
Is the 350mm to the bottom edge of the light unit, the center of the light or the top??

Like the exhaust set-up on the car. I am planning the same route with a centre exit back box....

I measured the lights to the specs of the IVA manual so hopefully no issues, for stop and tail light and indicator it needs to be a minimum of 400mm from the very outer edge, so this was taken off the outside of the wing stay and measured inwards, off the top of my head I think it was a minimum of 350mm from the ground. There are no set distances for fog or reverse other than must be vertical and fog on d/s reverse on p/s.
I wanted a different look for the exhaust and with the turbo on it's made it quite quiet which I can't see failing the noise level check.

Well the time has come for my IVA test, it's booked in tomorrow morning at 9am at the Newcastle centre. It's been about 2 1/2 years building it and cannot wait to get it on the road. It's my birthday tomorrow as well so hopefully my tester will give me a nice present in the form of a certificate ? I've been going over the car and it's had a few last minute issues. I trailered it to work on a weekend to check the emissions brakes and headlight alignment and go over it on the ramp. I needed to put new bulbs in the dominator lights to get a defined beam pattern, Emissions were fine and being a 1990 it's a non cat test anyway, Removed and resealed the exhaust downpipe and realign the exhaust, Took it down the road from work to get a hunter 4 wheel laser alignment done, as our BMW KDS aligner is specific to BMW and Mini only, Brakes... I had a slight leak once the pedal was pumped up and pressed down hard with the engine off, this just required the brake pipe tightening 1/8 or a turn. In the rollers the front left caliper had started to seize up, I stripped it to find the piston difficult to push back so needed a new caliper. I also stripped and cleaned all the other brakes and adjusted the rears. My brakes were fine on my donor but just to warn people they must realise it's been a long time building so this is something for people to check. I had upgraded the brakes as knew I was going either supercharger or turbo so I had put 1.8 brakes on all round. You use 1.6 caliper's and to do this you need to swap the carrier left to right, however when I was building the car I didn't realise I had put the 1.8 calipers on off my other donor, so when i ordered a new caliper and went to fit it, it was wrong. Once I figured out the problem I had to go and buy another caliper for the otherside and swap the carriers over again, luckily the new caliper arrived on Monday and that sorted the brakes. Here's some completed pictures, if anyone see's any possible issues please shout them out ? Just noticed on the photos the rear lights are not straight, this has now been done, Also after someone's issues on here regarding overheating and removing the grill mesh I have chosen to leave mine out. I've checked the edges and even covered the bolts and trimmed anything inside the grill for sharp edges just incase.

Craig,
Good luck a very nice build. Re the front grill, I would take a cut piece of mesh (even if it's the plastic garden mesh recently used on other build) and some self adhesive cable tie bases and ties. That way if they do find an issue with no grill you could fit one. I would be worried that as this is front facing its a very obvious contact area.
Please keep us posted.
