Glad you're ok and hope the tR1ke isn't too badly damaged. On the subject of visibility, on my previous Striker I used a motorsport rainlight as a high level brake light. It would rely on keeping your foot on the brake in standing traffic which I'm not a fan of but was brilliantly bright, if they can't see that then they're not going to see anything.

You could also fit a switch to the accelerator pedal so that when you are stationary (foot off the pedal) the light is on saving you the hasstle of pressing the brake.

Taking that switch idea one stage further (maybe a stage too far but my braincell went off wandering by itself!) but, wonder how easy it would be to make a circuit which measured distance to the vehicle behind when stationary, when something comes within X-meters, the brake lights/high intensity rain light comes on for X-seconds. Another thing I was looking at previously when I had the bike was meant for front high intensity DRLs and made them twinkle as they are then more visible than a static light source - wonder if that would catch attention to the rear (albeit both ideas are of dubious legality)

Both ideas sounds good and not too difficult to carry out. And about the legality: I think when it can prevent a collision, it will be worth a ticket... (FYI: due too stupid dutch regulations, my trike has also illegal safety belts. Since the legal ones are IMO unsafe, I fitted these. I am confident that these belts prevented furher physical damage, so f*** the rules).
I know that in the past, modules could be bought to make the brakelight flash when making a emergency stop. This is also a possibility...

Dutch regulations say that you need to unlock the belts by pressing a button, like all factory cars have. All the decent belts that are available have racing car type turn knob release systems. The street legal belts look a bit el cheapo, the straps are narrow, and they are much more expensive. They also aren't available as a 6-point design (which I really wanted for safety).
About the visibility: I also fitted 3 rear lights, also illegal here in NL, but no police officer has attended me to this yet. If they do, I can explain why I did that. They are sensitive for safety based modifications I think.

I followed, what looked like, a new model MX5 today. On braking the high brake light flashed, it did about 5 flashes in maybe 2 seconds then was steady for about 3 seconds, then repeated this until the car moved on.
I checked when it was stationary, it was definitely programmed in and not a loose connection.
Timing isn't important just the fact it did this made it more noticeable.
As it was a production car it must be legal.

Don't know yet. Miraculously the frame is only damaged at the underside of the vertical frame parts at the rear, where it came in contact with the tarmac.... and this I can solve with paint. I can't find any other damage to the frame at all. Almost all the R1 parts (wheel, swingarm, exhaust etc) are destroyed... Even the fuel pump and air filter housing didn't survive. But engine, throttle bodies and frame seem to be ok. Nosecone is also cracked at the front.

So far so good! First 2000 miles are driven after the winter rebuilt. What I repaired and modified: Renewed complete rear section: wheel, swingarm, new brake disc & pads. Mounted a hyperpro racing shock with extra heavy spring and Akrapovic mufflers with cat replacement tube. Fitted a scottoiler so I don't have to spray the drive chain every 300 miles anymore. Since the original handbrake didn't wowrk at all, I mounted a hydraulic hand brake and removed the old one. I already mounted a power commander, but now I added a autotune module (with a wide band sensor) so the mixture stays correct. It has 2 settings, 1 for optimum AFR ratio for cruising mode and the other is for extra performance, which can be programmed myself. With the extra display I ordered I can read out the motormanagement data during driving. I also bought a Waeco cruise control, this is really convenient on the highway! For better handling I also mounted a front anti roll bar, what a difference this makes! Unbelievable! Concerning extra visibility I replaced the tail lights for the ones with integrated indicators and the 3rd brake light starts blinking when I brake. This is a extra (illegal) module made by Heal Tech. Illegal, but an extra warning signal doesn't do any harm, I think. Last but not least: some nice striping. So far for the update!
