Dan, will you take a picture of yourself wearing one of those signs as a hat and post it on the 92x forum as a quick fly by? We have a couple of Saabaru guys on the board? (and you didn't build an 818?)

After owning two 92x's, I'm done with Subaru for a bit, I love the simplicity of the Miata platform. There are a couple 818 builds on that board though, awesome cars.

My son and I both had '96 Aeros and looked at the 818. I was ready to go until we saw the leadtime, which was months worse than the Exocet. In the end I'm happy that we went with the simpler Exocet build. (sorry to drift off-topic)

No cone hat pic, because I showed up to this: "Do not top load"...yeah, right. Luckily, the kit was fine! Here are some more pics: After picking it up, I took it down to Hanksville Hot Rods. For any Denver builders, Hank (the owner) is helping me with my transmission tunnel for the wider seats I'm trying to fit and should be pretty well versed in the chassis by the time he's done. I *might* have him do a custom rollcage for it that is slightly higher than what Exomotive offers, but to try and get myself as much room as possible. Hank is the local NASA and Porsche club Tech Chair, so I'm confident that his work should be both safe and compliant. I'll try and post as many pictures as possible of the work!

Wow! That is nice that you have someone who can help you make it wider for wider seats. I look forward to seeing how it turns out. Robert

The important thing is that you received it. Let the fun begin. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the seat mounting.

Glad you got it (mostly) intact - and yours didn't get lost for 2 days like mine did :-) I'm curious to see how your fabricated tunnel mod looks like. We did the cutting, but we're now scratching out heads trying to figure out seat mounting...

I've asked the shop to take pictures while they do the work. Hopefully it will hep those looking to do something similar! Today, I ordered a Kirkey Road Race in 16" to try it out since I couldn't find one locally. If I fit, I'll use the Kirkey. If it's too small, I'll likely just go with the Sparco as it's a MUCH nicer seat.

Sometimes I wonder how it would look with just clear on top of the bare frame. It just looks so mean and raw! Can't wait to see this build too. It seems like every time I check this forum there is something new, or someone new. Congrats and good luck.

Got almost all of the interior out over the weekend! Dash, seats, carpet, steering column, pedals, etc. Hoping to finish up the mechanicals this week and pull the body, should be quick and easy!
Also got my 16" Kirkey in, does anyone have an idea of how snug it should be sans cover (which hasn't arrived yet)? The upper body portion fits me well but it is pretty tight around the hips. Not uncomfortable, but there's basically 0 room even without the cover.

Are the seat shoulders tall enough for you in a 16"? The covers are about 1/4" thick with the padding per side. The fit should be based on what you will be wearing wile driving too. Are you wearing a race suit/ cooling suit, extra layers? If it is a little too tight in the hips take a spreader clamp and stretch at the point that is too tight. I can post pictures of how I stretched my seat if you want.

I need elbow clearance and I feel it's safer to not be touching the outer frame in the event of an accident. Please do post pictures. I think I'm right in between a 16" and a 17" and don't want to go the custom route.

How I stretched my seats to fit. I used the Dewalt 12" bar clamps that have the reversible heads. This model is able to clamp or span with up to 600lbs of force. Here is the clamp. www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-12-in-X-Large-Trigger-Clamp-DWHT83185/204988146First I set in the seat to identify the tight points. marked the spots with tape. Second I start by stretching the pinch points use a tape measure to judge how wide you need to go. This seat is a 17" To get to this point I have worked the clamps up and down the edges and even through the belt holes stretching about 1" -2" over to achieve what I want as a result. Remember to go a little and try the fit then stretch some more. And here is the final result. 19 1/4" at the lap belt point. Take your time to get the fit you want. I hope that this is helpful. John

I'm dumb when it comes to seats like this, this doesn't effect the structural integrity?
