Hi all,
My name is Dan, and I've been a longtime car enthusiast much like everyone on here. My history is pretty vaired, I started with a Saab 9-2x Aero, eventually sold that and went through a string of cars:
1996 Toyota 4Runner
1997 Miata STO
2013 Subaru BRZ
2003 Jeep Wrangler
1987 Mustang GT
2005 Toyota 4Runner
1991 BMW 318is
2013 Nissan Frontier (still own)
Long story short, I missed the Miata most of all, but being a big guy (6'5") I simply didn't fit. Even with Elise seats on the floor there just wasn't enough room. Enter Flyin Maita and the Exocet. I had heard rumors there was more room in these, and luckily enough I got the chance to stop by Flyin Miata on the way out to Moab one day. Lo and behold, after a (very cool) tour of Keith's shop, I sat in my first Exocet and FIT!!!!
The order was placed a month or two later. I have a Sport kit (Chassis #91) with welded floors and the rear wing mounting holes on the way to me. Dark green body panels, frame will be painted silver locally. I chose to go with paint over powercoat because it gives me the flexibility to strip and weld in the full cage or other tubes should the need arise down the road (V8 swap maybe?).
The search for a donor began, and I finally found a 1994 M-Edition that had been T-Boned locally. The price was right ($1k) and I've already sold off enough parts to make my money back on the donor. Only 134k miles, it definitely needs a tune up and some new gas, but otherwise drives well and should be the perfect starting point!
Towing the donor home:
Before teardown, not so bad right?:
WRONG!
Teardown has begin. Most body panels are sold off, so now it's just getting the tub off the frame and labeling everything. In the next few weeks I plan to order the timing belt/cooling system parts as well as some V-Maxx's from Flyin Miata. Then I get to find a painter to do the frame and the build begins. Goal is to have it running and road worthy by next spring.
Chassis #91, I think the planned shipping date is next week. Super excited for the build to start, even if I do feel like I'm in WAYYYYY over my head. Hope y'all enjoy the updates!
