Hey guys, I just put in my order a few weeks ago and I'm looking for wheels under $100 per wheel. I find th weight discussion very interesting. I'm currently looking at some Bassett lightweight steel wheels that are 17lbs for 15x8 (http://www.bassettwheel.com/dhole_lightweight.html). The nice thing about these wheels is that I can get pretty much whatever offset (including negative) I want. The XXRs are just under 17lbs but is a 17lb wheel a big mistake? Don't be a cheap ass. Buy the 15x8 6UL and run 10mmish spacers. Good wheels are essential. If I have to settal for 15x8 wheels in the end I'm buying Volk TE37s.

Do 6UL's come in a low enough offset to pull of 10mm spacers? Everything I'm seeing is +36mm.

Thanks for the feedback. Thinking the bassett wheels would be nice to start with. My car is going to be more on the road then on a track anyways. If I were building a serious track car I wouldn't hesitate to spend the extra $$ to get the lightest wheels possible. Thinking 15x8 -12mm (4" backspacing) would be nice to really stick the tires out and give it a good stance. I might even go a bit wider (-19mm) in the rear just for fun. I've got a long time to think about it so I'll be checking out other low $$ options. Great info on this thread.
Can't wait until I get my donor and get this thing started.

Has anyone ran the 15x8 6ULs on an Exocet yet, and can confirm the size of the spacers needed? I have a set and am debating if I should keep or sell them.

This is why 15x8 and complete nuts and I refuse to run anything not a 9". Left, 225 street tire. Little stretched on a 9 but gives you accuses to the full contact patch. On a 8" you lose a few mm of patch so not that big of a deal but on a 9" you get less side wall deflection and that is big. Right, 225 racing slick. Squared and perfect. Can't put this on a 8" There is about an inch more rubber on the slick and that is very big deal. Same 6ul 15x9 gen 2 wheels. On the street tire, the wheel is touching the table. On the slick it is resting on the sidewall of the tire.

Makes sense. I'd imagine the side wall being perpendicular to the ground also makes it stronger. Less tire roll = better grip

Here's a Goodrich gForce R1S 205 on a RPF-1 15x7 35mm offset. Looks like there's plenty of space, so I think we'll take it out and do some autocrossing to shake the car down. I'm pretty sure I'll need spacers to fit the fenders once we get that far.

Konig dial-in 15x8 weigh 12 lbs. Yes the spokes stick out but I don't plan on jumping too many curbs.
