Agreed that spacers are just like adding a different offset. What I'm worried about are all the horror stories of using larger spacers. I have no real experience with them, and am sure there are safe options. My opinion is if you already have a set of miata wheels that you are planning to use, then spacers are a good option. If you are looking to buy a set of new wheels, why not save the money (on the spacers) and buy a set with the right offset... Internet rumors We run them on the Race Exocets in the UK and have done for 3 seasons now. No one has had any failures. They're put through their paces more than road cars will be. We run 20mm bolt on hubcentrics, but we've sold anywhere upto 50-60mm bolt on hubcentrics to Mk1/2 owners for drifting as well with no adverse effects. If you dig deep enough, there will always be someone who has problems with them. Hell I had issues with my first set because I left it to a mate to fit them. Instead of using thread lock, he used copper grease!!! Yes, the wheel did fall off on the rolling road. Needless to say I haven't let him use a spanner in my garage again

what type of track driving are you planning on doing? There are a few types of street-able track tires available. HPDE and autocross.

OK folks... this whole offset thing throws me way off.... if I have wheels that are +15 offset, and I use a 25m hub-centric wheel spacer, are my wheels now -10? I am using 15x8 wheels to hopefully fit some meats on the rear of the Exocet Race (USA)chassis. I wont be running the spacers on the front.

Yes you are correct about the offset. Your wheels would in fact be -10 with those spacers.

If so this is where the offset issue is most pressing. the support bracket for the fender bolts directly to the back of the spindle. If you don't offset your rim the back of the tire hits the fender support. Also the fender should only accommodate a tire tread of 205 width. In your case it sounds like you are not planning on fenders. What are you trying to fit on the back? 225/45 R15? With that rim combo you might not need spacers that big. might want to consider spacers like this with long studs. 5xracing.com/i-6810296-miatacage-miata-wheel-spacers-set-of-2.htmlHope that helps. I am not sure about fenders or tire sizes yet...Exomotive USA has been pushing the 205/50/15 even for V-8 cars so that the tire can build heat and traction. Too wide a footprint can lead lower psi per square inch on the contact patch. I have been thinking 235/45/15 for all four corners though. My car is a full race chassis ad a full bonded in windshield. I will be running a supercharged v-8 so I think I will need everything I can get. Fenders will be installed for legalities but most likely removed most of the time. The spacers I have are bolt on to the hub and then have studs of their own through the blocks.

I have a friend who tells me I should go with 16 or 17 inch wheels, that 15s are too small. My limited understanding is that the Miata suspension geometry is compromised with 16 or 17 inch wheel and that I should go with 15s. I cannot remember where I read this. Anyone have any links???

I have the same type of wheel spacers for my setup. Exomotive's build guide recommends 225-255 size tires for the V-8 builds. I have no idea on fitting the fenders over something that wide. good luck with your build. looking forward to seeing your progress.

Anyone have any links??? 15's are the lightest thing you can fit on a miata chassis. you can use 16 or 17's but the wheel and tire combo becomes very heavy very fast. the heavier the wheels/tires the harder to turn. The larger rims are a great look but you could be sacrificing performance. That is the issue with larger wheels. I posted a link earlier in this thread that has wheel weights for what fits on a miata. hope that helps.

Great guide ! So with et38 rims I need 38mm spacers for zero offset to sit under the arches correctly? Any good suggestions for spacers apart for Ebay?
