I'm having a hell of a time deciding on wheels. Logic says 0 offset Traklites for autocross, 0 offset Rotas/XXRs for street. But that's 8 wheels that I don't have vs. the 16 wheels/tires in my shed and 8 wheels/tires on my 2 Miatas that will all fit wonderfully with a spacer. Decisions...

But that's 8 wheels that I don't have vs. the 16 wheels/tires in my shed and 8 wheels/tires on my 2 Miatas that will all fit wonderfully with a spacer. Decisions... For what it's worth, there was a time I had 12 wheels with tires, two sets with DOT track tires and one with high performance street tires, but sold them all before deciding to build an Exocet. I ended up buying a set of Traklite Holeshots recently. If I still had those 12 wheels (similar to you) I'd have bought spacers and never looked back. Although, buying new wheels is a lot of fun.

I think I might go spacers for the time being to determine where the budget's at after all is said and done. $100 vs. ~$600 plus tires for Traklites. Can someone check my math here? The two sets I'd be running on the Exo would be a 15x7.5 et42 and a 15x7 et43. I'm going to assume the 15x7.5's have the higher potential for issue, assuming that half inch is evenly split on either side of the mounting face, that gives me ~6mm extra clearance vs. a 15x8 wheel. If a 15x8 et0 fits, I need to get my wheels to an effective +6 offset, meaning a 38mm spacer will do the trick, putting me at an effective +4. Clear as mud?

I'd agree with your sums... that doesn't mean that they are right though!

You might find this useful. Here is what a 38 mm spacer looks like installed on the rear. Bringing the rim to 0 offset. without offset spacer at factory -38 mm. With offset spacer at +38 mm brings rim to 0 offset. Guys I hope this helps, I always understand better with photos.

According to this we need a small spacer for the rear fenders when using the Holeshots. Wondering if those cheap 5mm plates with stock studs will be adequate or if I should get a set of longer studs and a hubcentric rings too...

Greg, I have 5mm spacers on the rear with my holeshots. Counted 6-7 full turns on my 949 lugnuts.

I have the ARP studs (not yet installed) and I bought a set hub centric rings from a seller on eBay for $5.88. So get the hub centric rings they are probably worth it. As for the studs I had at least one broken one on each hub so for me it was an easy choice. You just need to make sure you have enough threads showing for the lug nuts to be secure.

The thread pitch for the studs is 12x1.5 if I remember correctly. Meaning a 5mm spacer will take away just over 3 threads. Not the end of the world when there were just over 10 threads showing without the spacers.
I'm going to be away for the holidays for the next two weeks. I will measure again just to be sure but 6-7 threads should be plenty safe.
