Sorry couldn't resist the RS1 reference! Collected kit today and now safely in garage upside down waiting for me to start on it. First schoolboy error and I haven't even started yet! I thought I'd be clever and get my helpers to position chassis on its roof ready for me to mark out the floors and then realised it would probably be better if I had quickly laid chassis on alloy sheet, marked out outer perimeter and then put chassis on roof. So now I have upside down chassis and no way to flip it for a few days....doh! just gone to attach pic straight from iPad only to find its 1mb limit! I'll get some pics onto laptop and resize etc

I think I have sussed out all the suspension parts and have ordered the track rod ends for the steering rack. I laid out left and right hand sides for front end and see where everything goes.

I did fit my floor with the chassis upside down, using some quick clamps to retain it.
Then, cut the alloy, with it clamped hanging over the chassis. Did this both sides. Obviously protect the paintwork.
Check Kiwis build for a quick centre line marking procedure. It works as long as when you cut the floor, you have a nice smooth line. Shaking like a sh1tting dog is not a great idea when cutting the alloy;)
In a nutshell, draw your floor line, cut it out, use it to find centre line of chassis rail for drilling. Bisect the line every 100mm etc.
No need to turn it over.

Thanks Steve, sounds like a great idea. Was just think that I can not possibly wait to get it flipped before starting work, The wrenches are calling me.

What did you use to cut it whilst clamped to frame, not sure I have the balls to do it with a jigsaw which is my only cutting tool!

I used a large pair if tin snips, cuts the alloy very easily and give a bit more control over cutting. It takes a bit longer but does the job nicely. If you done have any you can usually get a half decent pair at B&Q for about £15 or hire some from an HSS hire shop.

I reckon you could use the blade trick I used to mark it whilst upside down, tape a Stanley type blade to piece of angle (i used a knife held against the angle but taping just the blade would work) slide that along the side of the chassis and lightly cut the film then peel off and you have a very well defined cutting line. Put some tape on any edge of your marking "tool" that will touch the coating as well just to be safe. Do this on all rails and you can split the difference to find centres, Steve's trick, which I detailed finds the centre of the curved tube well. Personally I favour a jigsaw for cutting, get the finest blade you can obtain and buy a good blade, not a cheap one. I find snips leave the edge wrinkled, sure you can bend the floor back but still can't get it as neat as the jigsaw. Also lots of other uses for it where snips won't work at all, however they do have lots use as well. So actually being upside down has it's er.............upside What's the Aussie reference by the way? I have also decided that in future I will not post photos of work in other threads, means you got to read the threads and look for the info referred too, can't make things too easy for you

You've sold it to me. A mix of your idea and Steve's is what I am going to do. Spent £10 yesterday on decent jigsaw blades so I reckon that will be the way I will go. Don't mind cutting with jigsaw if floor is away from car. I had visions of me slicing the lovely powder coat off with a jigsaw! Sorry about Aussie reference, very bad joke. Australia is upside compared to the UK hence my chassis being in Aussie mode

I marked my floor whilst it was upside down and drew around the chassis tubes with a marker pen, no way of damaging anything this way, just means you need to be able to get under the car, i had mine on A frames so no problem for me, when it was all marked out i put the floor on the patio table and used a nibbler (bodyshops use these), my neighbor is a bodyshop man so i was lucky to borrow these, they cut like a dream and leave a really nice edge, then when you put floor back on turn it round so that the marking is visible and this shows you where all the chassis tubes are-just mark the middle and space 100mm like steve said. easy! Good luck shaggy and keep the pics coming-cant wait to see the pic of floor on upside down car! we all know what it looks like now but its gotta be done!LOL. Wayne.

Cheers froggy. Big night tonight as mates are helping to flip chassis so I can mark floor with knife kiwi style:-) I am probably making this floor business harder work than it needs to be as the marking I have done with a pen whilst upside down is probably fine but I only really want to cut once a whereas at the moment I would need to keep trimming more and more off which worries me given my lack of sheet metal skills! I am encouraged to read people are flipping chassis on their own, that gives me hope!
