So I have been busy in the background with un photogenic work (aka wiring) and have done a few more jobs. Update on my overflow tank and instrument cowl/dash...... So here's the dash, the panel isnt bonded in this photo but I have now bonded it and its a nice flush fit. Quite a bit of work just to get the switches in my reach for the IVA man. Post IVA it will just be the Acewell up front with no cowl. PS. The fog and light switch are upside down in the pics :-) The mounting bracket that came with the overflow tank was naff to say the least, a lightbulb moment and I got this from halfords..... A whole 4 quid!!! Pretty neat job I reckon.... I got the fuel pump wired up easily to my SVC loom thanks to this image, one wire colour was different but it was obvious... And then I quickly mocked up a temp solution for the fuel filler so that the car can to Skuzzle on Friday this week. Its neat but very tight and will put stress on the bodywork so I am ordering a 90 deg and 45 deg Gates hose from CBS and an Ali coupling which will be perfect and no stress anywhere... Last jobs for tomorrow for pre Skuzzle is to bleed the clutch, somehow in the build process I have lost the pushrod/piston off the back of the clutch pedal but luckily I noticed on Tuesday and a replacement will be here tomorrow just in the nick of time. Guaranteed I'll find the original tomorrow! :-) I'm off this week and so will be cracking on until the guys pick the car up on Friday afternoon. Cheers all

So Nick from or 'of' Skuzzle fame came and took her away today, great to see it out in the real world, I think it looks awesome and loads of compliments from Nick on my build.... So now I have an empty garage and work to do on the rear tank cover Soooo close now but loads of time pre my self set deadline. When it comes back I still have Acewell and rear lights to do and then IVA prep

The car is back in the garage and Skuzzle did a great job, Nick was stunned at the dyno WHP figures, its a stock 1.8 100k miles only mods are the K&N, MAF delete and Carbon canister delete and my home made exhaust. 136 brake at the wheels which is great! Not much to do now....

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! Also I bought this a few weeks ago as another donor as I will be doing another kit after the Exocet as well. Reminding myself just how much fun the MX5 is even in standard form! :-)

So its been a quiet couple of months for me what with one thing and another! However I am applying for an IVA date this week and am aiming for April. I got back out in the garage this weekend fitted the dash, light switches and final fixed the dash shroud.... The instructions that come with the Acewell are really very good indeed, its such a good package for the price. Ive got two pairs of mirrors, It's 50/50 on whether the smaller ones will pass IVA and so I will be fitting the bigger ones for now A couple of more updates to come and then Im ready, Ive also got a full week in the garage in March for all final pre IVA touches. Cheers all :-)

Had a couple of hours at the car this evening and sorted a couple of the last jobs on the wiring for the Acewell dash. I bought temp sensor housing/coupling on the bay for £7 (to take 32mm ID hoses) and a pack of copper washers and cut into the shiny new Stoney Racing hose. I wanted it as close to the engine without being to close to the exhaust..... The coupling is very well machined and a bargain for the price and comes with hose clips as well Fired it up and temp gauge kicked straight in, I ran it up to temp and until the fan kicked in and it is extremely accurate, reading exactly the same as my ECU setting for 'Fan On' Lastly I managed to suss the mk2's gearbox speed sensor wiring and have dash reading speed, just need to calibrate speed and the dash is finished. Have to say I am very impressed with the Acewell at only £200 brand new Cheers guys.

So only reason I'm posting this here is so I know where to find it if I need it on IVA day. I personally am sure that someone over analysed the IVA manual on their Exocet build and now everyone's copied. Earth strap from tank to chassis... On other kits I've built I get it but the Exocets metal tank bolts in 4! yes 4 places to the metal and grounded chassis. Best extension I've yet seen on this over analysis it then putting a warning/danger sticker next to this earth (I wont be doing that) EDIT: wasnt needed or checked at IVA just as I thought I also took other pics around the tank as I have no intention of saying 'yeah sure I'll just whip the rear cover of for you' EDIT: At IVA all they said was is the rear cover fixed, said yes and no further questions. IVA date getting closer and a week off in March to finish it and do a dummy MOT test, well a real one obvs but not officially necessary. Hope your builds are going well guys.

So the rear cover is now final fixed. Rivnuts in to the tank mounts 1 left 1 right and 2 behind the seats. Got some advice and lined up the filler pipe in a good orientation then by sticking your arm up through the subframe and a long screwdriver in the filler neck pipe it was sorted in 5 minutes. I have an aftermarket filler cap from ebay and put a tether on it using a cable repair kit.... It will be taken off post IVA Look kinda cool for a tenner..... A few weeks now and its IVA time :-) Cheers guys

So IVA is next week! Too busy prepping the car for big updates but I felt I should make a quick note to all builders.......
THERE IS TOO MUCH MYTH AND LEGEND surrounding IVA since the t'interweb evolved! I chased an IVA fog light issue which simply isn't true for the IVA test. I will elaborate this weekend or next week but for now my eye is on the prize.
Much has gone on here for me in the last week and so I will have to restrospectively post what I have been up to once IVA ordeal is done next week.
EDIT: Passed just fine on test day
