The previous owner mucked about with the main harness to such an extent that i will have to source another. There's a salad of wiring going everywhere where it just doesn't make sense for me to try and figure out where/what is routed.
The entire reason the car won't start is the wht/blk wire which is supposed to be going from the ignition switch to the interlock switch is being routed somewhere into an abyss.

Fixed with new harness, car is starting and Jupiter and Venus have aligned again!
Got a coolant leak and a small fuel leak but we shall fix those.
Don't go full retard with your harness boys and girls - never go full retard.

Ok, so a question for the California folk.
It seems that since the last time anybody on this forum completed a registration with the DMV, the process changed.
The main reason I inquired around were the windshield wipers.
First thing, I call the BAR. They tell me they only smog and that's it. Fair enough, as expected.
Then I call the CHP. They say they don't even do brake & lights inspections any longer and that all they do is assign a VIN and sign my paperwork. They don't look for any wipers or anything else.
Where do I get my brake & lights inspection? At a repair shop where all they have to do is sign the DMV Statement of Facts form.
Wonderful!
Any feedback is super welcome!

I went through the SB100 process a little over a year ago. I didn't have windshield wipers, but I did have to go to a brake and light inspection. I went to a place in Mountain View, but I think shops that can do it are pretty common. Even better if its not required any more!

So I went to the DMV and they wanted nothing to do with me until I bring in all tge palerwork fron BAR, CHP abd the brake & lights certificate. They had no idea what form 124 was nor would they listen to my request for them to review memo VR-2002-25. Did i just come across a super idiotic DMV or is there a new process? As per DMV web-site, the guys today were correct. See this link www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/?1dmy&urile=wcm:path:/dmv_content_en/dmv/vr/checklists/special_con . Appreciate any input.

Which DMV office did you go to? The Los Gatos DMV has done TONS of SB100/kit car registrations. They’re the shop that almost everybody around here goes to for SB100.

In my case the DMV wanted a VIN before anything else. So they gave me a temp registration and referral to CHP for VIN assignment. The CHP office in San Jose provided the reg 124 form themselves.
Once I had my VIN it was back to DMV to get my sequence number and referral to BAR. They didn't mention brake/headlight inspection but I got one anyways in case BAR wants to see it.

Seanwally and mattd, thank you very much. It seems i just had very poor luck with the DMV. This was in Pleasanton. I will make sure to go to Los Gatos next time.

Just to make sure before I make another 6hr trip to the DMV.
Does the DMV require you to have any documents other than certificate of origin and receipts for the 1st visit?
Thanks for the help!

I would recommend taking a few pictures, and anything you can print out in terms of the actual process from the DMV website. My experience (starts on page 5 of my thread) was all over the place. The DMV can also give you a temp permit (so can a AAA office). Brake and light was after the DMV. Since your car is likely registered to 1960, smog isn't required. The DMV doesn't do brake and light, you do go to a mechanic that will do it. I'd call around 1st though, as some places won't do kit cars. Good luck!

Ok thanks to everyone who replied I got my temporary registration and am setting appointments with the CHP tomorrow. I am now in the final stages and the only issue im having is with the side repeaters and lights in general. I got the headlights (both hi and low beams) working and the rear brake and reverse lights work. Im having issues with the side repeaters and parking lights. When i turn on the headlights, the rear parking lights do nothing. And turning on the turn indicator does nothing. My first question is on the parking lights, do I have to close the loop on all the wires? Right now I've left the R/B parking light wire open ended. Should I just loop it onto the black ground wire? As for the side repeaters, im at a loss here altogether. Im certain ive wired everything up correctly but will double check again. Any tips would be helpful. Thanks!

I did some searching...it's those god-damn converters from 5x to 4x wires for the rear lights! And my flasher may be dead for turn signals but I'll figure those out.

I had a don’t of problems with the trailer lighter converter I was running. My turn signals would light up when I pressed the brake, etc...Huge pain in the butt all around. Eventually I got tired of it just went to factory-style separated turn signals and brake lights, getting rid of the trailer adapter.

So, good news. Everything works great - like a charm. Bad news - my exhaust cam decided to friction-stir weld itself onto the head. Apparently I forgot to lube the front cam seat in the head.
