Why.. Just for looks.. Would need to weld plate to frame to install.. More holes in fire wall.. Not just for looks; it would allow me to have adjustable pedals (position wise) and also the FR/RR brake bias can be adjusted. Also, these pedeals are very solid feeling. I'm redoing my clutch/brake lines altogether so would be a worthwhile upgrade.

Was thinking about aftermarket racing pedals too for next year. I find it really hard to heel/toe in the Exocet, where it's just natural in the Miata.
Edit: $658 - wow, might spend some more time tweaking the Miata pedals...

Anybody know the O.D. of the top tube the headlights in the below image are mounted to? I'm designing a custom headlight assembly which I will share with you guys. It can be 3D printed and uses off the shelf Hella projectors. An easy DiY and save a few hundred bucks.

Looks great. If you're at that stage and only spent 12 grand. You're wayyy better at budgeting than I am.

Looks great. If you're at that stage and only spent 12 grand. You're wayyy better at budgeting than I am. Well...$12k was a few weeks ago. Now it's more like $15k to get the thing running and getting an SB100. Another $5k for the turbo upgrade next year. So yeah...$12k, nope. It's all these little things. I didn't expect to do any serious engine work but had to get the head re-surfaced, cleaned out, port-matched etc. I didn't expect to replace anything either but I replaced pretty much everything around the engine as it looked pretty old and worn out including almost all the sensors. And no that wasn't my picture; that's off google. Mine will be blue-gray body panels and a tint of orange for the chassis, haven't decided yet on final color. Also, got my chassis number, #282. Getting in 3 weeks now; about ~4 weeks later than originally expected but oh well. How much should I expect to pay for the powder-coat? I've been quoted around $1000 based off dimensions/pictures I sent to a local vendor. I was hoping to stay below $800 if at all possible.

Also, exhaust. How much of a pain in the butt is it to fit the stock exhaust?

Also, exhaust. How much of a pain in the butt is it to fit the stock exhaust? Not sure if the NB1 is different but on the NB2 you have to remove the resonator for the exhaust to fit. I also cut off the shield on the side of the cat but I'm not sure if that's strictly necessary. There are two muffler hangers on the muffler that connect to the body that you'll have to fabricate. You can see what I'm doing in my build thread (Daniel's San Diego Build). I shortened the exhaust pipe because it sticks way out the back. The muffler is still going to extend quite a bit from the back of car.

I had one place quote me $3,000, one place refuse to quote, and one quote for under 1K. If you are getting a custom or complex color scheme, maybe it's worth paying more? There's also this book on Amazon, available for 99 cents, which is pretty clearly an Exocet build and contains a full log of spend and complete log of what was sold and all the associated price points. Very handy as a reference for price points etcetera and for 99 cents, why not.

My total powdercoating costs (frame, cross members, control arms, uprights, and a number of smaller parts) ran about $2,600 between two vendors. I could not get transport for frame with first vendor, which is why I switched. Second vendor used an undercoat which resulted in a very smooth finish compared to first vendor who did a single coat. Frame by itself was about $1,800 of the cost, as I recall.

Not the cheapest (cheapest was $900) but a place which has a reputation and I've heard some 1st hand customer feedback about. Still, not too shabby. That book does look interesting. Thanks!

A place in Oakland did ours for 1K, but that included sandblasting off the existing powdercoat. Ours was originally a sport chassis, converted to a race chassis, so it was slightly more complicated than a bare steel sport frame. Be sure you have brackets, wing mounts, suspension spacers, so it can all be done at once. We are happy with the results.

Leons Powder Coating. (510) 437-9224 Huge shop, the owner is usually there. He should remember me, as it's probably the only exocet that's been through his shop and he loves cars.
