lucky man, if you have mk2 onwards its just blanking plate at the back. recall this was the case on my mk2 1.8 - think it relied on front cam/crank sensors instead
I'd also recommend changing HT leads. Defo change cam cover seal if its original, careful not to catch rear lip if you still have coilpack in place. Remember small blobs of oil friendly silicone in corners (i use black one from halfrds, forget brand) and dont over tighten those poxy cam cover bolts! hoses on mine have started to go if touched (96). My favourite oil is Mobile 1 semisynth 10W40. and mx5 parts sell oem filters which have served me well. Gearbox likes fullysynth, check miata net etc If you track you car the ps fluid will boil over (if youve kept this). i have yellow stuff pads which are ok on track and seem to be lasting well.
thought i would spew it all out...

Hi Tim, I had the same problem on my front upper wishbone ball joint threads. Managed to rescue the situation by filing a chamfer on the end of the stud then gently running a tiny file through the thread from the undamaged area below to create a 'run in' for the nut. As the stud is long enough, the nut, once tightened, is well in safety and saves having to change the whole wishbone. I did think of running a die down it (Though like you I didn't know what thread pattern it is) but as I think the threads were originally rolled rather than cut it might have weakened the integrity of the metal unless stopped as soon as good thread was encountered. I recon its an M12 x 1.25 thread, so i have ordered a die to clean up the thread, via e-bay

Tried to clean up thread with needle file but not much luck, so ordered a die Gasket arrived from Autolink, so water bypass re-fitted... Anti roll bar tie rod arrived, so fitted, torqued and capped... So after completing the roll bars, Joseph got on and torqued all the front end and read end critical suspension joints...

Goodridge clutch hose, in red, fitted along with male to male union Went to fit rear end cover and realised fuel tank was to high, so off came all the additional nuts... and off came the stone guard from the underside of the fuel tank (which we had nicely painted!)... added the now recommended solution of edging strip to prevent fuel hose chaffing... and ordered some fuel hose. Success, the rear cover dropped in place, needs a bit more fettling to tidy up the finish Added edging strip to the rear end, but already ran out of black plastic caps...

Have been working away from home, Goodwood FOS, etc, so no progress.
Got the loan of a wrench to re-thread the front upper wishbone joints.
Bought stainless serated nuts for suspension top mounts, stainless allen key bolts for mounting the ABS harness to the shock absorbers, 7/16UNF bolts for the seatbelt motunings, seat belt stalks (I sold mine with the leather seats as I accidently left them on in the photo so the buyer insisted they had them) and a K&N Oil Filter off e-bay £10.99.
Sold a few more parts on free e-bay listings; Front Springs £18 Door Top Moulded Trim NS £5.99 Door Top Moulded Trim OS £5.99 Rear Springs £27.99 Power Steering Pump £18.99 Passenger Internal Door Lock Surround £5.99

you are doing a great job. having to build mine on tight budget.it looks to me that in your pictures that your top ball joints are not pressed fully into wishbone on most cars the fine splines are what holds joint in tight

Pete, Thanks for the feedback. We are currently at £4K, but I have plenty of stuff still to sell, just waiting on another free listings on e-bay. Hope to tuck in under £3K. I popped the ball joints out to enable powder coating of the upper wish bones. Tim
