Bare metal portion of Handbrake painted black. M10 x 1.25 tap borrowed & drivers wing mirror fitted (checked tube wall thickness / thread depth - mirrors feel secure enough - road test will prove), wing mirror modeled by Joseph along with passenger wing mirror and dropped the chassis onto power frame to have a quick look at what beholds... Modifications to the front sub frame are finally in progress (welding on brake flexi spacers, prior to powder coat). Next jobs, finish sorting the engine.

Nigel,
Thanks. Fresh enthusiasm from the son, since the chassis returned red... The riv nuts look really good (hopefully they are in the right places), but on the downside, I am certainly not a fan of working with fibre glass, or rivets (my arm was killing earlier from using the hand tool, which constantly jammed) .

Modified the pedal box assemblies (only found out after powder coating satin black and re-building sub assembly) cut spacers off, drilled out stud and filed flat and cleaned up the rear after drilling out the stud and repeat same process on clutch pedal box (which I hadn't bothered to strip for powder coating)

I do hope these build points are picked up and addressed in any subsequent build guide published by MEV.

Rather than rivet the rear bulk head, we are going to make this a screw in panel, M4 Riv Nuts installed, (along with riv nuts as far as I could reach without putting the chassis on its side again, installed for the fuel pipe & brake pipes in the transmission tunnel)... Master cylinder & pedal box starting to get installed...does anyone know whether its possible to get alternative master cylinder reservoir bottles for the MX-5 that have a lower profile? [UPDATE : Just been informed to add around 6 washers to each of the top 2 Master Cylinder mounting studs, which will crank the unit over sufficiently] and radiator header bottle (I am going to use a M6 Bolt with a spacer for the lower mounting point, all from the chassis tubes, hopefully without any additional brackets - fingers crossed) and horns (minus extension brackets) Ordered yet more Riv Nuts....

Fitted the Master Cylinder to the bulk head and the reservoir lid fouled on the underside of the bonnet So fitted 4off stainless steel washers on the top two mounting studs (after trailing 6off); and then removed all the adjustment out of the Master Cylinder, and fitted the pedal assembly. I may powder coat the fabrication in black to match the clutch, if i get the opportunity. Fitted clutch bracket and removed all adjustment out. Hopefully won't need any spacers in the travel, now that they have been removed from the brackets.... Trial fitted the head lights, and measured for M8 Spacers, found some in black nylon on ebay. Fitted the tax disc (it is a bit premature!) Fitted the handbrake (ran out of stainless steel fasteners); Just need Joseph to help turn over the frame to get the fuel lines & brake lines fitted, now that the riv nuts have arrived.

Ordered fasteners to tidy up the handbrake mounting, and spacers to sort out the radiator coolant expansion bottle mounting.

Looking good guys! Interesting to see spacers are needed. Would be nice if there if there was a manual to tell you these things.... Thanks for sharing and keeping the pics coming. Will make life a lot easier for the rest of us.

Hello tlight
I mostly only look at rocket posts, but sitting at home with a stinking cold has the advantage of some time to look at other MEV happenings. What an excellent thread. It's been a great read, with good detail and photos. I am jealous of the help Joseph is giving you, my daughter was a few years younger during my build and a much bigger fan of ballet and maths (strange but true) then she was of working in a cold garage. She loves track days though, so it's not all bad.
the colours look good, and I look forward to seeing it at Stonleigh.
I have successfully used the wing mirrors as my front indicators, but i swapped the LEDs for normal bulbs to make them brighter.
Cheers

Been a bit short on time lately, roll on Sunday for another bash. Bought a nylon pillar from E-bay (have plenty spare if anyone copies the idea). and used this to stand the coolant bottle proud from the chassis, and relatively level to the water lines... May be a better pic when the engines in place...

With the chassis on its side, heres a bit of a better shot of the radiator coolant expansion bottle solution; Riv nuts for fuel & brake lines finally completed in transmission tunnel; Brake lines being installed, followed by fuel (it was a bit fiddly, adequate spacing between each line and longer fasteners may have made it easier); Petrol tank fitter fuel filter fitted & new stainless steel fasteners for the handbrake fitted.
