Hi Everyone - Decided to jump in a build the Exocet for the learning experience. I'm a total newbie to the world of cars, so it's all about the journey. Donor is 1999 base, all manual. It was on lowered springs and had some 18 inch rims.
Have pulled it apart, as you can see, and am in the process of building it out before painting it. Once I'm finished building it, I'll pull it down, get it powder coated then build it again.
I could use some help along the way, and kudos to everyone who's posted before. It's very helpful!!
One question I had: has anyone attached the floors, put the silicone bead between the floor and chassis and then had it powder coated?
I plan to do a black chassis with orange body panels.
I'll definitely have a few more questions, especially about the charcoal box, and how to attach the radiator reservoir etcetera on the passenger side of the engine bay. So much to put there. The only challenge is how space the hood. Steadfast's build thread has been a great resource (especially for the CA emissions / registration). And Exocet has been awesome in terms of customer service.
Look forward to joining the Exocet community!

Welcome, what chassis number are you? Curious what they are at now.

Congrats on your progress. I also used a 99 donor and have all emission equipment still installed. Look for my posts here and on the Facebook page as I just posted pics of my 2 charcoal canisters and mountings. One may show where I mounted the stock overflow radiator tank to the chassis but if not I can get some pics. I also have ABS still so even less room to mount stuff but I got it all mounted and after 3 days of trackdays I am having no problems. Good luck and don't worry about asking lots of questions.

Welcome! Great to have more California Exocets running around! Cant wait to see you on the road.
For the charcoal canister, I just blocked all those off and took everything out of the engine bay. I attached the charcoal canister directly to the fuel tank vent and had it mounted to the fuel tank. Not quite as effective as the stock system for preventing evaporation, but even in my enclosed garage, I never smell any gas fumes.
For the radiator overflow I just zip-tied a bottle next to the radiator with a hose connecting it to the radiator overflow.

Great, thanks for the input!
To answer a couple of the questions, I'm building it in SoCal. Think Steadfast was in Northern CA. Its chassis number was in the mid 180's. It's on the paperwork somewhere....
Because of various issues I really only get to work on it on the weekends, so it's likely a bit of a slower build than most.

I'll be tracking my car with Speed Ventures at Cal Speedway in Fontana on 8/13 if you want to come by. It'll probably cost you $10 to get into the track. I'll have to check with SV rules but may be able to take you for a ride.Bring a Snell helmet if you have one as I don't know if SV rents them. Welcome to the EXO club...... Gene

That sounds awesome. Would love to. I'll look into helmets.
Here's my engine bay.... still figuring these things out. Per other posts, clearly it can be done. Zip ties are conceptual since I still have to get the chassis powder coated. The gold bracket will get trimmed down to size... etcetera. The wires need to thinned to take out the AC cables....
The other positive is I got the seats, Corbeau A4's, which can recline with double locking slide brackets. Used some steel from the hardware store to fabricate the mounts. Very comfortable. I sat in the Forza, and it wasn't for me. I hear good things, and they work for others, but just wasn't a good fit for myself.
Progress, it's not super fast, but it's progress

Hi all - looking to get powder coated, and got quoted around $600 to powder coat the chassis, wing mounts, bunch of brackets etcetera in a semi-gloss black. Crazy to say, but that seems almost to inexpensive. I sent pictures with the measurements on everything, so there's nothing lost in translation.
Read people are quoted $1300 for just the chassis up in Northern California. Any thoughts? Powder Coating isn't something I get done everyday!

That's encouraging. Perhaps I'll spend some more time shopping around for my powder. Exomotive says their powder price range from 600 to 900 so I wouldn't think your quote is too good to be true but definitely a great deal. Have you seen their work quality ?

I haven't. Where are you located? In SoCal there's a lot of different shops. I've gone out for quote to a couple more, so will see what the different ranges are. Not so easy to get to the shops as they are usually closed Sat and Sunday.

I paid about $600 for my steel floored sport chassis at North County Powder Coating in Escondido. One color gloss black. Great outfit to work with.

Seems the best deals are in socal. I might have to convince the wife we need to take the kids to Disneyland soon.

Just wanted to update this powdercoat discussion. The lowest price I've gotten so far for a well reviewed place in the Bay to do the frame powder is $1000 for a 1 stage coat, and $1500 for a 2 stage coat.

Ah. I'm jealous of the low price powder coating services you guys have available in CA. Here in MA, I was originally quoted $800-1000 to do the chassis, all the skate parts, wing mounts, panels, lots of brackets, etc. The quote wasn't even close: my total spend is almost exactly $2500.
