Just a thought, I have the locked the garage up so cant look at hte minute. On the demo exocet Stuart has the fuel filler directly behind the driver seat side.
If you turn the tank around does it line up? Basically make the fuel filler exit towards the front of the car behind the driver rather than the rear

Hi, I tried that and it still doesn't line up on the rear tabs so looks like I'll be welding. I think I may need to mention to MEV that they are in the wrong place and also the seat runner bars on the frame are too close together for the mx5 runners.

Mines only slightly out when mounted the other way. Is the fuel tank different on a mk1 to a mk2?
Are you using the new radiator/bonnet mount? I have the new nose and it doesn't look to fit for me, just emailed MEV about that

Not sure if the tank on a mk1 is different from the mk2 but worth a check. I've got the new double vent nose so hope I don't have the same problem. I'm planning to get a new mk1 radiator so that I can get the brackets from MEV.

Yeh I have the double nose and mk1 radiator, bought one new. It's the new bracket itself that fouls the bonnet on mine.
If only things could be straight forward!

Exactly, I've used the search facility and can't find examples on the damn firewall panels. Wish they had welded them in place at the start.

Interesting about the rad mount/bonnet hinge, ive just email stuart requesting a price and delivery. My donor is 1998 1.8 Mk2 and I have the pointy nose with double vents also. Think i need to speak with stuart first to checking for any issues with fitting! What ive started to realise throughout the build is that its not a westfield or a caterham (and not the same price either). There is a LOT of faffing about to do which isnt really made very clear before any purchase is made

I've emailed Stuart with photos. I'll be happy to be wrong but currently it really seems to obstruct how you can position the bonnet to get it well lined up.
I could potentially mount the rad as normal and cut the bracket down and just use it as a hinge.
Will wait and see what Stuart says.
Definitely not a bolt it straight together kit!

I did a Robin Hood once and that was a damn nightmare. Hope this isn't anything like that. Also built an Mnr too but used a bike engine in it but that was not practical in towns but was a really easy kit to put together

Regards Stuart

Hi, the tank brackets are welded on vertical but they will need tweaking to match the angle of the sides of the grp, you will see the sides of the grp are not vertical. Bending the brackets in slightly will position them correctly for the tank holes but only if the filler is behind the driver. No welding is required. The MKII tank is larger capacity than the MKI
Seat runners need the 4 large pins cutting off the bottom and the ends bending flat. Hole centres are 400mm for MKI MX5 runners.
Radiator brackets need to be offered up and clamped in conjunction with fitting the MKI radiator.

Those of us with MK2 donors have to weld on extra bits to to the seat runner bars then to allow for the extra length and move the brackets for the MK2 tank?
