Hi Rich,
I will be following this as I am going to be doing the same soon just up the road.
Let me know if you need an extra pair of hands or my engine crane and lifting beam.

What do I lose by not loosening them? I'd ask the question the other way around. There is nothing lost by loosening them whilst you have the chance. I'd do it, you don't have you take them off or disassemble at this stage but it leaves options open.

It's a long time ago and back when I had even less idea what I was doing, but unless someone disagrees; don't the front hub nuts need undoing to put the newer-type front stays on?
Issue later on is putting them back on at 200 Nm torque setting or thereabouts.

yup - back at base to check now - per build guide; "front pair bolt on with the 3 bolts that were used for the now removed brake dust guard. This will mean removing the front hub which is a tight nut but the bearing slides off with ease."
I think some may have adapted their stays to get around this.

Cheers, good to know. I've read Yorkie's build thread all the way through and will work through the others over the next few days. My son wants to get in the garage on Saturday afternoon after classes so looks like we'll be trying to remove the pedals, steering rack, loosening hub and wheel nuts and marking up the loom before the last connections come off.
Sunday - with luck - will be to get the brake pipes off, handbrake out and see what else needs to be found to get this damn body free.

Hi, anyone know what this connector is for? It's near the near side seat belt area and I think it went rearward of the seat belt top mount. Cheers

Rich,
A big peice of advice. When removing the loom label everytihing. And I mean everything even spare (non connected terminal blocks). The MX5 will have lots of unnessary connectors for you Exocet (interior lights, wipers etc) when you come to reinstall knowing it's a spare terminal block or not is really helpful.
For my build I labelled every side of a connector and numbered eg 1 goes to 1. Use isolation tape, masking tape gets covered in oil and grease and can become unreadable. I even used a different colour tape for the engine bay, interior and boot. This helps when laying the loom out in your Exocet.

hanks, I did mostly but missed 2 connectors off. The above being one of them but it my most likely be the rear screen demister. I need to take a pic of the other one as it's a clear coloured block and is very close to the hazard switch

Thanks to Mike for the loan of the hoist, my son and I got the body off and managed to leave the fuel lines and tank all in situ.
Looking at the fuel lines, it's clear we need to cut them to replace with new ones for the kit but they have connectors at every end that need to stay there. How have others cut and replaced theirs?
I've started with a list of new bits I can see we'll need: Exhaust system - end to end Suspension Brake discs and pads Probably worth putting new bushes in too.
I think our next step is to jet wash it all off and see what's rusty and then deal with that. Paint all relevant bits for added protection.
Oh and order the kit - tried to do that on Friday but forgot the show was on.
Looks like we might have a long wait to get going - still it means we can read all the builds from fellow builders and see what needs to be done that isn't described on the build manual.
I see the comments about the fitting of the seat holes before riveting the floor - can't see how this is a good idea as how do you know where anything will fit?
The pedals look to be a problem area too?
The steering column, has anyone used the plastic bits that came off the old one? Some builds look like they have been welding that panel in for the pedal mounting? Are the holes pre-drilled ready?
Cheers, Rich
